@Rory_Johnston especially during war conditions there is no room for rationality in a politician’s mind. to be honest, in recent years i simply couldn’t believe my eyes.

I think that a big part of the reason that people still think Trump will be in for the Iran War long haul is that they don’t appreciate how truly, insanely unhinged the energy market is about to get if this doesn’t end soon.

TMS Tankers suezmax Vilamoura has become the latest in a series of, as yet, unexplained tanker explosions. Government agencies and private security are struggling to establish a concrete pattern or identify who may be behind the blasts (free to read) lloydslist.com/LL1154049/Fear…

@Ingolf_Stahl @ed_fin @Magne71053484 30-50% reduction of ttl vsl’s intaken isn’t just a slightly smaller cargo. on the other hand any transshipment either by ship or pipe raises additional subjects, making it more complicated to conclude a charter party by both parties

@ed_fin @Magne71053484 It's a very common idea. I had to re-educate myself a while back. Once you get the idea of a fifth or so of your cargo travelling in parallell on the Su-med pipe the idea sticks. Janbu-Suez-Gibraltar-COGH-Ningbo What's not to like?

Public Service Announcement: Stop bloviating about the Houthis. Tankers loaded at Yanbu can sail NORTH and exit via the Suez Canal. Yes, VLCCs too, under certain conditions. If you didn’t realize this, maybe you should stop pontificating re: stuff you know so little about.

1. Many people have DM’ed me about my Substack + the private X account since last night’s podcast. While the Substack = long-form articles, the private X account has proven incredibly important this week. e.g. Yesterday, I shared new VLCC fixtures most people aren’t seeing:

The Sinokor Era: Based on conservative estimates, Sinokor currently controls approximately 78 VLCCs active in the spot market. This figure is expected to rise to at least 88 vessels within the current quarter, with market reports suggesting the fleet could ultimately exceed 100 units, potentially reaching 120–130 vessels #TANKERS
BreakWave@DryBulkETF

Sinokor has positioned itself as the single largest VLCC commercial operator - a scale that materially alters the competitive structure of the segment. #markets #tankers breakwaveadvisors.com/insights/2026/…

@Vmaxpax @lzab1453 def normalizing trade relations would be a bearish factor for shipping. the number of ships in the dark fleet is another key factor. guess someone has already calculated the consequences if one day they become non-compliant for trading.

@Vmaxpax @lzab1453 i’m not so familiar with the supertanker business to be 100% sure. just think the US and Saudi Arabia have increased their share in the EU at the expense of some of the India/China market. +/- the same shift as with LNG instead of natural gas via pipelines.

1/ #Tanker Thoughts🚢 What drives rates (and earnings)? > Ton miles, ie long voyages > Fleet stretched, ie few vessels available, low new orders, scrapping What's happened since 2022? > No scrapping > Ton miles maxed > New orders looming for 2026 > Silo-ized market dynamics

@lzab1453 @Vmaxpax i guess arabian oil goes to Europe by vlccs, so the shift to this shorter leg couldn’t be positive i.e. India/China

@ahn_dea @Vmaxpax yes, and Russian oil going back to Europe, would push India/China to buy from other sources (transported in VLCCs mainly), hence why it would be a positive.

@Vmaxpax Great analysis, thanks...on 2) above I think VLCCs should be excluded...actually peace/removal of sanctions would be a positive for them (i.e. Russian crude going back to Europe instead of India/China)
