Look ahead What is our fate? To make the same mistakes that we made yesterday Or do we try to save ourselves Or sit back and laugh as it all goes to hell? - Jim Lindberg, Pennywise, "Time Marches On".

@dferris1961 @austin_rief IMOP the real killer hasn't been AI - it's been that $ACN get's more than 10% of it's global revenue from the US Federal Government, also include state/local governments and NGOs the Trump administration has been more influential then AI

Consulting is dead. I’m on a plane sitting next to a woman who works at a top consulting firm, making a presentation for a fortune 50 client. ChatGPT has written every single word in this deck. What happens when clients find out they’re paying millions for ChatGPT?

@dferris1961 @Electroversenet The birds being turned into puffs of smoke isn't exactly stomach friendly for the "I care about the animals" types like myself... youtube.com/watch?v=ICLXQN… btw - wind turbines are equally as bad due to ultrasonic sound causing sever stress on badgers living anywhere near them!

@Electroversenet Is anybody really dumb enough to be surprised? $1.6 billion in federal pork, down the drain of "renewable energy technology." Tiny tip of an enormous iceberg. Morons touting solar as cheap in 3, 2, 1...

California's $2.2 billion solar plant is shutting down. Once hailed as a breakthrough, the Ivanpah Solar Facility in the Mojave Desert is now a case study in failed technology and environmental risk. Built with $1.6 billion in federal loans in 2014, the plant was hailed as a symbol of America's clean energy future. It used 173,000 mirrors to focus sunlight onto three massive towers heating fluid to drive steam turbines. Complicated. Expensive. And it never delivered on its promise. After just 11 years, the technology is now obsolete. On top of that, the facility became notorious for its environmental toll, with estimates of at least 6,000 birds incinerated each year by the concentrated beams. The promise was affordable, reliable, green power. The reality was high costs, technical failures and ecological damage.

Tim Cook was a better CEO than Steve Jobs. Greg Abel will be a better CEO than Warren Buffett. Buffett is a great Philosopher with extreme patience. If people are being honest, a hands-on approach of Greg, including his ability to trim some dead weight will be transformative. What Greg and Warren did several years ago with the Japanese Trading Houses may turnout to be as Brilliant at Apple with far less risk. Berkshire Doubles in Value by 2030.

Barron's: "Berkshire Hathaway stock has gone from expensive to cheap over the past year. At its current price, not a lot has to go right for this trillion-dollar conglomerate to generate market-beating returns-even without Warren Buffett at the helm...Berkshire is in better shape than its stock price suggests. For long-term investors, betting on Berkshire should pay off--even after a legendary investor passes from the scene."

@dferris1961 I explicitly set rules top and center in all of these chatbots: 'DON'T BE SYCOPHATIC' - it really bothers me, and they're sticking all these mannerisms in the products, and frankly, it bugs me that I can't figure out how to turn them off.

@plainionist I agree with you. There’s runway for senior people who understand overall system architecture top to bottom. If you don’t start studying - grad school, a phd is probably going to be the entry criteria for a developer job in 10 years.

@Codie_Sanchez So 30% down - you need $150k CASH for a ~ $500k for an HVAC company 🤨 Raise your hands if you have $150k cash 💰😉

A lot of smart people are paralyzed right now - convinced AI is going to change everything but not doing anything about it. The people I'm not worried about are the ones buying a $500k HVAC company and using AI to cut their back-office costs in half. Pick a business, use the tools to boost efficiency, and let everyone else argue about what's coming.

Yawn, another day, another post on here about people asking, "Is Coding still worth it?" "What are you going to do when your coding job is replaced by an #AI?" It's simple, people: "Read a book, then read another one." - it's called Computer Science for a reason 🙄

Last week as our Pelican-4 passed over Alice Springs, Australia, we used its onboard @nvidia Jetson Orin modules to detect airplanes. We didn’t just "see" these planes, we identified them from orbit, in real-time. It’s one of the first times an Earth observation satellite has moved beyond simple data capture. This is the start of a queryable Earth where the insight arrives before the image even downloads. Learn more: investors.planet.com/news/news-deta…

@dferris1961 @planet @planet's use cases in agriculture, anti-illegal deforestation, military, and industrial purposes are certainly laudable - IMOP, it's the dystopic consequences of those in power leveraging these technologies in the future that terrifies me

@aiboyscout @planet And they're not just photographing. They appear to be constantly upgrading so now they're able to identify objects, like what kind of plane or whatever. And as you say, that's just what they're telling the public. Gosh, I wonder what someone might use a system like that for...?

My wife and I were outside at 5 am or so and it was dark. We had never seen a Starlink satellite train before and it was freaking us out. Just a straight line of evenly spaced lights moving fast across the sky. Weird until you find out what it is. It also looks lower than it really is, which made me wonder if it was a line of drones at first.

@dferris1961 @planet ok maybe it's 3-5 meters 😉 with their "DOVE" satellite array. Still an order of magnitude lower-resolution than the NSA (which can look at the 10-30 centimeter resolution on a target area) - and that's just what we "know about"
