Exactly one year and three days after getting the all-clear from cancer, settling in here for a fourth World Cup Final. Health and international football are two beautiful things. Cherish and protect them both.

Hottest day of the year and spectacular penny pinching by @RyanAir is creating to potential mutiny amongst passengers stuck for an hour on the tarmac at Gatwick.
Only one staff member to check passengers at gate desk and pre boarding resulted in bogus passengers being able to board a flight with no checks and the head count then not agreeing to the manifest.
Eventually identified rogue passengers but then had to check that there were no unclaimed bags in lockers.
Fully understand security paramount but very very avoidable.
More importantly I’m supposed to be seeing @thecure in Dublin in a few hours and suspect will only see the encore

It has been a standard at some Euros (including Euro 2024) for a match ticket to ensure train travel is free or subsidised
With Euro 2028 tickets also much lower, UEFA really showing FIFA up on this

FIFA have responded to this - and strongly. “We are quite surprised by the NJ Governor’s approach today on fan transportation. The original FIFA World Cup 2026 Host City Agreements signed in 2018 required free transportation for fans to all matches. Recognizing the financial strain this placed on the host cities, back in 2023 FIFA adjusted the Host Agreement requirements across all host cities as follows: All Match Ticket holders and accredited individuals shall be able to access transport (public or additionally planned transport) at cost to allow travel to Stadiums on match days. “FIFA worked for years with host cities on transportation and mobility plans, including advocating for millions of dollars in federal funding to support host cities for transportation. “FIFA World Cup will bring millions of fans to North America along with related economic impact. Many fans will travel to NYNJ to enjoy the eight matches scheduled. FIFA is not aware of any other major event previously held at NYNJ Stadium, including other major sports, global concert tours, etc., where organizers were required to pay for fan transportation.”

Most notable aspect of that Liverpool game - beyond the warning for the PL over set-pieces being officiated - was how many bad decisions they made in attack. It felt like almost everything was always wrong, or mis-hit.

Underrated factor in why English-speaking countries have especially bad housing crises is their common law systems (adversarial and litigious) vs judge-led civil law systems elsewhere.
Makes Anglo planning/permitting systems especially vulnerable to NIMBYs and other objections.

@Dan23_92 Gakpo isnt a clever player. He is a big man but is physically weak. Cant hold up a ball. Too slow. Cant press. Fails to see a through ball. Was a decent man for racking up a few goals v weaker teams. That's gone now too. A forgettable Europa league player is his standard.

Thankfully didn’t matter with the flag up but Gakpo’s role in that Kerkez chance sums up his season. Not in a position for him to square it then ends up blocking the shot himself.
I like him and think a lot of the stick he’s had is well beyond what’s fair but it’s not happening.
