The finding that surprised me most: Even a 10-minute setup in NotebookLM (upload sources, set context) cut total time by 82%. Every minute of setup saved 4.5 minutes of execution. This is what I mean by Signal Velocity. The bottleneck was never the AI. It was the absence of a memory layer.

I ran the same research task in 5 AI tools this week. Same prompt. Same source material. Same goal. The results were not what I expected. One tool finished in 4 minutes. One took 47. Here's what actually happened — and what it means for your workflow:
