Yeah, this tracks. Darche's outlook from the jump looked future oriented. None of the guys he brought in had any real term.
The only longterm contract he gave out was Romanov.
The roster has a lot of space and flexibility to facilitate moves.
Personally, I can't get onboard with the hate. I'm underwhelmed by this year's additions (to say the least) but that doesn't shock me given it always felt like an evaluation year. I don't get the hate.
He's got a solid coach now and that will go a long way. We'll know more with the offseason. I just don't know enough about what he's actually able to accomplish, yet, given this is his first season on the job and he's still getting to know the roster.

@MikeBartner I think it’s more on giving this team (Schaefer/Ritchie) a chance for the playoffs in year one before making changes. There will be changes coming to the roster.

Palat played for Darche and if playoffs happened would lend some experience. No game breakers here at all. Lee on the other hand has been disappointing. Needed 35 goals got 19. Woof!

Has he made good trades? - Also no
Has he shown that he's capable of being a good GM at the NHL level in any way? - Once again negative
But at the end of the day we're all #isles fans and we're all rooting for them to be successful, so lets finish the season strong and steal a playoff spot.

Lee is still producing in the final year of a 7 year contract. That contract was way more successful than anyone could have predicted.

@Ajsoti Not a LL fan but obvious choices in the 14/13 deals shouldn't be championed. The Lee Mayfield Engvall deals were atrocious. Lee got his because he lost Tavares. Even Varlomov to some extent. Challenge is always trying to get FAs to island but overpaying average players is now bad

But with injuries he had to log more minutes as mayfield did and it got dicey. When TDA went down it rolled into bad metrics for both Pelech and Pulock. 2 injuries on D would hurt most

@islanders_takes Matt, the thing that worries me is his talent evaluation ability.
Let’s say they don’t want anyone with term and don’t want to give up a lot(understood) but want to improve a bit to try to make the playoffs.
Everyone but him knows Soucy is terrible and would not help.
