One more step needed in Maine. #publicworks #firstresponders "If signed into law, LD 669 would make DOT employees eligible for the same benefits as firefighters, police officers and corrections officers. Under the proposal, the state will pay a benefit of roughly $118,000 to the family of a DOT employee killed while working on highways, bridges, culverts, and other transportation projects." After deaths, lawmakers agree to extend death benefits to transportation workers killed on the job mainemorningstar.com/briefs/after-d…

Not good ... "The message being heard by lobbyists, DOT officials and congressional staffers is that expectations should be reined in, with some predicting that action on the bill might not come until next year. Thus far, no committee has produced bill text nor announced a date for a markup." "Hopes fade for highway bill ahead of Sept. 30 deadline" subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2026/0… via @POLITICOPro

What is your state doing with its BEAD funding? @pewtrusts has investigated what many states are doing - or plan to do - with their dollars. "Over the next few years, there will be clear opportunities for state policymakers to support the next steps in their state’s BEAD programs and to continue to address the state-level policies that govern and enable access to affordable, reliable, high-speed internet throughout their states." Updates to federal environmental review processes matter for public works. The @Interior has finalized revisions to how it implements the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), partially rescinding existing regulations and shifting detailed procedures into an updated NEPA Handbook. For public works agencies and infrastructure owners, changes to federal review frameworks can directly affect project timelines, documentation requirements, and coordination with federal partners. #NEPA #PublicWorks #InfrastructurePolicy #EnvironmentalReview federalregister.gov/documents/2026…
