@rangaba It has been a long overdue desire of interested parties to have Buddhism crushed in Sri Lanka as the majority faith and establish alien faiths. This is no surprise

VESAK COINCIDENCE: Sri Lanka’s Buddhist hierarchy today suspended Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana, 71, chief custodian of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, over child sexual abuse allegations, a rare disciplinary move by any Buddhist sect on the island.

The South-West monsoon is arriving over Sri Lanka Heavy rain in some areas, yes… but also misty hills, roaring waterfalls, cooler weather and beautiful journeys. In Sri Lanka, rain is not bad weather. It’s part of the experience #SriLanka #MonsoonMagic

@sonaljay8 Sri Lanka is heading into another crisis and this was inevitable. No point in talking about local offers, etc as very soon locals will not be in a position to afford much

Hotels that used to give locals a “higher price” than what foreigners would pay during the season are now advertising the most creative local offers imaginable 😂

@sonaljay8 The big boss is asking citizens to be Swadeshi and avoid foreign travel including destination weddings. So how will things work out for Sri Lanka with India as a key market? Perhaps there is a further opportunity in this for Sri Lanka to capitalize if we do get it right?

If you as a hotel; after seeing all the data; and after seeing everything that’s going on in the rest of the world that has turned the market upside down, still refuses to believe in India as a major market for your property, I am sorry but you are not qualified to be in hospitality. It’s unbelievable how much our people would bend over for Europeans while completely ignoring Indians that actually spend more.

@Zacchariahshums @rangaba Why don't we ban the import and the sale of such items into the country? I mean if these things are illegal and a nuisance / hazard to the general public, why import them in the first place

For the Nth time, Lanka Police is warning that the full force of the law will be used against vehicles with illegal modifications such as decorative lights, musical horns and “beat barrels”. Even stickers are prohibited, but traffic cops bark from time to time with little bite.

@rangaba Why don't they ban the import and sale of such items in the first place by law? They should deal with the issue at source by prosecuting and shutting down people / places that provide these services

@samarajiva These developed countries got there by stealing from the East. The so called economic system that we are forced to be a part of was built through stealing and plundering.

Immorality rules. Thou shall not steal, a commandment found in all religions including those supposedly governing the individuals prosecuting this war, appears to have fallen by the wayside, in addition to international humanitarian law.

The challenge that the tourism industry is facing today; with the geopolitical situation in the Middle East is arguably as tough, probably tougher than the one we faced during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis. The right strategies and smart marketing is whats going to help the industry stay afloat till the situation settles.

@sonaljay8 @shrsddq Not all locals spend well. I haven't had any issue at any place because out of habit, I tip staff very well apart from the bill.

I feel the racism towards locals is spreading to restaurants in Colombo as well. Went to one for lunch today, and you could almost see the “disappointment” on the face of the servers. They then rushed us, and we felt like they just wanted us to vacate the table ASAP.

@sonaljay8 It's hard to call this racism. Preference for overseas visitors who potentially could be bigger spenders, perhaps.

@sonaljay8 In 2021 the SLTDA commissioned a study to figure out the actual cost of a KM for a car. With all variables considered, the study concluded that the actual cost per KM is LKR 114. This was in 2021, now costs have gone up. With lower app prices, where is the benefit to the economy?

The government must absolutely push through and get this done. I suspect there will be enormous push back, but if they can get this done it will be a huge win for Sri Lankans who rely on tuks and also foreigners.

Govt. moots mandatory tuk-tuk regulation “Since three-wheelers now fall under the taxi category, they must operate within the app-based system and strictly abide by the rules and standards established by the NTC” themorning.lk/articles/kYD7Q…

"Tourism is actually net negative/neutral for Sri Lanka's economy." Heard this take last week. Let's do the math. 2025 tourism revenue: $3.2 billion. Even if 50% leaks out (alcohol, other food imports, foreign hotel profits) that's still $1.6 billion staying in Sri Lanka. - Plus hundreds of thousands of jobs. - Plus tax revenue. - Plus the local driver, guide, farmer, and fisherman who never show up in the official data. Is there leakage? Yes. Should we reduce it? Absolutely. But "net negative"? The math doesn't math.

That’s crazy 😜 A private hire car / taxi in the UK for 120 km would easily be £100-200+ (fuel, driver time, vehicle costs) In Sri Lanka, this £28 includes a dedicated driver, air-conditioned vehicle, door-to-door service, often English-speaking, and flexibility - it’s not just a bus or shared ride. Why ! 🤦🏻‍♀️
