Vale Henry Brewer Racing Victoria (RV) is saddened to acknowledge the passing of highly respected and long-serving Steward Henry Brewer at age 64 following a battle with illness. Henry had been a valuable member of Victoria’s Stewards department for the best part of 40 years serving as a Deputy Steward. He began his Stewarding journey in April 1987 under the tutelage of Northern Chair, Terry O’Brien, during the period in which Pat Lalor was the Victorian Chairman of Stewards. He would become a mainstay of race meetings and jump-outs throughout North East Victoria with his signature look of rolled-up sleeves as he administered the Rules of Racing in a firm, but fair manner. Whether at Dederang races or Wangaratta jump-outs, Henry was always available for a chat or to provide valuable integrity advice to participants or colleagues. Henry was also a valued community member within the area of Mudgegonga, where he served on the local council for many years whilst also tending to the Hereford cattle on his 300-acre farm. RV extends its sincere condolences to Henry’s family, friends and colleagues on the news of his passing.

Tonight I close a chapter that has meant so much to me. After six years as CEO of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, my role has been made redundant as part of a broader restructure. While this wasn’t something I expected, I leave with enormous pride in what we’ve built together
