I might get ratioed for this one, but for my money Mike Zeck is the greatest cover artist in history. Measured by iconic covers and the number of homages. My second place is Jim Steranko and this is of cover artists who also drew interiors not just covers. Who you got?

@protobertx It had a lot to do with the right folks in charge at DC/Warner Bros. going to bat for creators when it came to character use in other media, like Paul Levitz.

@akolvek1007 @marvlous_melody And I really wanna stress the archival thing here. One of my personal favorite comics is pretty much only accessible via pirate sites. The full run is near impossible to find even on ebay and it does not deserve to be lost. Pirate sites are the main reason it hasn't been.

@onlyanimafan @marvlous_melody Well, this is what a lot of readers have done for years. And those people who’ve straddled the line of pre internet/post internet, bin diving was the way to go. But, the time of instant gratification that high speed internet has brought has spoiled some people.

@marvlous_melody Oh the only viable option other than piracy is usually getting lucky and finding a store with dollar comic boxes and spending a couple hours searching. Or ebay.

@TheHatalwayswin He’s said just because they weren’t prevelent due to the distribution there, he’s not as much of a fan. War comics were the thing.

@ComicsMeta I think he had some inside track on bringing in lower cost foreign talent and pushing off veteran artists. Probably why he got promoted.

Sometimes I wonder why Marvel editorial is so ass and then I remember the current editor in chief lied about being Japanese to break into the industry and then it all clicks

@OfeliaMidori Yeah, there are others. These go down on occasion and pop back up later. That happens with pirate sites. To me they’re good for checking out books, but I’ve bought books regularly since the eighties, so no biggie. I’ve tons of scans from the days past, too.

@JonathanJColton Of recent artist with a decent run, I’d say Reis. Kane is a legend. For Bronze Age, I loved Keith Pollard and Joe Staton.

@JonathanJColton I’d go with Neal Adams, probably the most important Batman artist. I like Todd’s Batman, but don’t think I’d consider him in the top four Batman artist, way down the list, sorry.

I was scrolling through some Frank Miller art to show my friend and I found this. I’ve never seen this one before, but I think a lot of my mutuals will like this. One of the best lightsaber duels pictured by one of the greatest comic artists!

@hasanthehun I’ve got five dollars on the chance that we find out that the shooter happened to be a part of some right wing operation in the past, since that seems to be the case with every Trump ‘assassin’.

we dont even have details of what happened yet and these mfs are already using this opportunity to try and blame me! the president uses the most violent rhetoric ever known to man, perhaps thats why its usually his own supporters trying to shoot at him.
Bonchie@bonchieredstate

Is this a good time to mention that the Democrats' new darling, Hasan Piker, said he wanted the blood of his political opponents to run in the streets and recently justified the murder of an innocent father because he ran a health insurance company?

@AldousOnTheFarm @QueenKaylaleesi Earl Norem and Ken Kelly were strictly cover painters, or just painters in general, spanning a hell of a lot more books covers and the like outside of comics. Sienkiewicz is a really good storyteller throughout his career, imo.

QUESTIONS OF THE DAY: What artist in your opinion creates better comic covers than sequential work? Why do you feel this way?

@QueenKaylaleesi Yep. There are a lot of artist who I like immensely, but I can see they struggle with basic storytelling flow. They are technically brilliant, but the pages look like pinups pasted together. But, the original art market is big business, so I guess they win either way.

You can be a great artist and still not be able to produce beautiful, compelling sequential art. There's a reason why some artist only do covers… Sequential artwork requires a person to understand narrative flow. Not every artist can produce good sequential work.
