It’s definitely the way poverty food is also now outrageously expensive too. Flour, canned vegetables, bread, oats, sugar, yeast. It’s not even possible to hack your way into cheap groceries bc the cheap groceries are expensive too.
Louis Brain Genius OSINT@LouisWordGenius

Also it’s very underrated how much food prices have increased. Try making a trey of lasagna for under $30. It requires legitimate effort and looking for deal when it should be effortless to do homemade lasagna for cheap. It’s poverty food

@GovernorShapiro My 5 year old had to wear a piece of cloth over his mouth for a year & had to sit 6 ft away from his peers in Kindergarten. Why wasn’t my child allowed to be a kid then?

The best thing we can do for our kids right now is to just let them be kids. Kids are getting cell phones sooner than any generation before them, screen times are up while real human connection is down, and foundational skills aren’t being taught enough these days. We need to take a step back. It’s why I just signed a bipartisan bill into law, requiring cursive handwriting to once again be taught in PA public schools. It’s also why I’ve called on the legislature to pass a bill requiring schools to both implement a bell-to-bell cell phone ban and guarantee recess for every Pennsylvania student.  Let’s continue our work to set young people on a path to success — and let our kids be kids.

@MissIgraine @danaparish ChatGPT, Google search results, Reddit history… all things that aren’t 100% private but no way would I let HR look over my shoulder onto my personal device during an interview.

@danaparish It's also scary that the candidate thinks what she writes in ChatGPT is private and personal. Are people really this ignorant?! OpenAI owns everything you write. You're literally giving away extra personal information about yourself, willingly... I'd never use it.

🤯🤯🤯 HR asked potential candidate to open ChatGPT during interview & ask, “Based on my past conversations, can you analyze my behavioral tendencies?” When she declined, the vibe went south. This is insanely scary & inappropriate.

@theotricality There’s a tablet on the table behind them, you can see the screen glowing. If it’s a place like Olive Garden there are games on it. Not helpful if you are trying to keep your kid from screens!

it’s genuinely hard for me to wrap my head around the argument that “we need kids to have phones in school in case they’re murdered in a school shooting and their parents would have liked a last voicemail from them”

@asthasr @AlisonSomin My 5 y/o was quietly playing Legos by herself while I got her books like 20 feet away. She came running out crying after the librarian told her she wasn’t allowed in there without a parent, and felt like she was in trouble. Just unnecessary.

In 1951, at age eight, my dad walked a quarter mile to school alone every day. In 2025, an eight year old can’t explore the chapter books on the other side of a large room alone while her parent reads picture books to a sibling.

@mkhammer 0% of the parents tracking their kids today had their own lives tracked as teenagers. It's sad that a whole generation of new parents suddenly decided to do this. It also makes the kids more fearful of the world when parents tell them "I have to track you or you won't be safe."

This is a cultural shift I would very much like to opt out of. This is the civilian equivalent of “if you’ve got nothing to hide, why wouldn’t you talk to cops w/o a lawyer?” Bc humans you love are entitled to some autonomy? Even the name Life360 creeps me out. Goes for my kids, too. Is this my Gen X cusp birth year showing? I like the idea of being able to find my loved ones in an emergency situation, but we are losing something in the exchange. (Stipulated, I know trusting couples who share location all the time and for many of them, it doesn’t seem unhealthy at all, I think bc it’s not born of suspicion. It certainly could be unhealthy in some dynamics.) A state of constant surveillance of loved ones just isn’t my thing, although I do keep track of my kids’ extremely minimal online life. Let them free range in real life, clamp down on their Internet lives, not the other way around.
Nick Huber@sweatystartup

Anybody in a serious relationship should be comfortable sharing their location with the other person. If they don’t, they’re up to no good. No exceptions. I haven’t heard a single valid argument against this.

@FreeRangeKids This is pretty normal in apps used by daycares. It's info you want to see when you have a baby and you know their diapers are being changed, and helpful when you have a toddler potty training. Continuing into pre-k age is not necessary but teachers are used to doing it.
