The 8th Water Rail of 2026 ringed today at Marston STW. Seems to be a lot on site this year....estimate of at least 50.

@LincsCC_roads Why have you got Road Closed Ahead sign on southbound A17 at Swineshead level crossing and diversion down A1121. When you get to Chainbridge in Boston there's a UTurn diversion sign !?! A17 has not been closed for a week.

Good start to 2026 with a quick bird-ringing visit to Marston STW, with this Water Rail. Seems to be a lot there this winter.

Plus "Little and Large", Pygmy Kingfisher (12cm) and Giant Kingfisher (46cm).

Just received finding details for a Kestrel chick that I ringed in June 2009. At 16 years and 6 months, this sets a new British longevity record for Kestrel.

Pleased to get pics of two Kingfishers difficult to photograph today in the Gambia. Blue-breasted Kingfisher on a rusty sign and a Woodland Kingfisher in our hotel garden.

Fantastic two day trip up river in the Gambia with local bird guide @Yusuphajammeh18 Highlights being eight Egyptian Plovers and great views of Red-throated Bee-eaters.

Out with @Yusuphajammeh18 today and added another kingfisher, African Pygmy Kingfisher. Other pics are Long-tailed Nightjar, Grey-backed Camaroptera and a Citrus Swallowtail butterfly.
