Identify Zero-to-One innovations in crypto to truly make life changing gains. Last cycle gave birth to DeFi and NFTs, but where's the 0-to-1 innovation right now? By 0-to-1 innovation I mean inventions that are so unique, that they change the trajectory of the industry. Its originality pushes the industry forward and jump-starts a totally new sector within crypto. Being early at finding an ingenious Zero to One asset will leave you perplexed at first but can bring massive gains if you act on it early. Noticing the zero-to-one innovation might seem simple, but it’s harder due to our own biases. When a truly new hot thing appears, it might get little to no interest from the community. It might even be totally dismissed by the crypto community as not worthy of any attention. That’s why having an open mind, and willing to try every new hot and especially controversial thing, boosts your chances to find an 100x asset. I say “asset” because it might not be a token. NFTs are the most prominent 0-to-1 innovation with Punks and BAYC being the most successful examples of the last cycle. They were/are mocked all over the internet. Did you listen to the critics or acted on it? DeFi is even more significant innovation. Yet when DeFi started to boom, criticism was wide and strong. Tokens, too, often introduce 0-to-1 innovation. A few examples of the last cycle: • $AMPL rebasing tokens • $CRV veTokenomics • $YFI fair launch • $OHM (3,3) ponzi • $SNX liquidity mining & collateral asset for stablecoin -------- So, where's the 0-to-1 innovation in this cycle? I believe there are a few areas. 1. Ordinals & BTCFi. NFTs on Bitcoin were thought to be impossible. Yet here we are. BTC NFTs are outperforming Ethereum NFTs by a wide margin. We also have BRC20, ARC20 etc. bringing innovation to fungible tokens on BTC. And soon Runes protocol might soon bring memecoin trading to Bitcoin. 2. Restaking. Critics say it's the new Ponzi, while others see it as the future of Ethereum. I believe that the ability to reuse your ETH to secure various services is injecting new life into Ethereum. We're witnessing the birth of a new type of dApps like LRT and AVS thanks to restaking. But Ethereum fans beware, restaking is coming to Bitcoin as well. 3. Innovation in scaling blockchains. Modular and monolithic blockchains is my favorite debate of this cycle. Which approach will prevail? Modular scaling brings innovation (and jobs with it) to L2s, data availability, zero knowledge proof and many other sectors. While monolithic approach tries to do the "impossible" and scale everything under one roof. Other innovations of this cycle are: • Account abstraction & Intents to improve user experience • Soulbound tokens, non-transferable tokens to represent a person’s identity on-chain • Real World Assets or on-chain tokenization. • ERC404? ---- How to find the 0-to-1 innovation: • Look for technical innovation. Something that hasn’t existed before. • Look for the community: are there people who care about it? A big group of haters is also a good sign • Look for confusion: new things are confusing because of 1) technical innovation 2) challenging preconceived ideas/narratives ----- Overall, crypto thanks to Bitcoin in itself, is a 1-to-0 innovation. And a widely hated one. But every cycle the industry grows larger with multiple sub-sectors bringing new innovations and jobs with it to those who are open-minded and willing to learn. So, my advice is to think on your own. Click buttons, try new things, and be open to new ideas. You never know which idea when acted upon can change your life.
