Everyone is hyped about Claude… but barely anyone knows how to actually use it to replace real work. I collected 700+ mega prompts that turn Claude into a full-blown productivity engine. Comment "AI" and I’ll DM you everything.

To all you design tool die hards. Be flexible. I got started designing with Macromedia. Ever heard of it? Made a career building Flash websites and ads. Made popular websites/apps in Photoshop for a decade. Remember Sketch? Focus on the skill not perfecting the tool.

It is NOT easy getting a design job anymore. Full-time or freelance, doesn’t matter. It’s not easy. Unless you’re a standout designer—it’s going to be hard. Unless you know other standout designers and have a relationship with them—it’s going to be hard. Unless you have a relationship with the companies, clients, or founders—it’s going to be hard. And it’s not about working harder than others. Everyone out there is working hard. Some without work are working harder than those with work. So many also think they’re the “harder worker”but are often working harder on the wrong things. Like becoming better advice givers online instead of becoming better designers in real life (if that’s the job you’re after). Don’t expect to magically get hired because you once worked at Google either just like thousands of other designers. It doesn’t work that way anymore like it use to. It’s getting harder at every level. And a lot of the people online you think are crushing it, are not. Some are of course. Some are crushing it because they are one of the 1% standout. They’ve put in the real work for years and years and built personal brands and reputations, have the right relationships (critical), or flat out just got lucky. It’s hard to compete with that. With more designers everyday, and less jobs everyday (in a way I don’t have facts on that), it’s only going to become more critical for you to figure out how to gain relationships with others in your industry while actually trying to grow in your design skills. As an example, if you’re a ux designer that doesn’t do ui I highly recommend learning how to do ui design better than most only ux designers. You’ll have a slightly easier time finding work. If you’re a product designer, learn web design. It’s much easier to get work as a web designer. If you’re a web designer, learn to build your own sites with products like Webflow. You’ll likely attract a lot more clients and can better go after local businesses. I learned more than just web design. I also knew graphic design. I learned product design. I designed iPhone apps. I learned marketing. I learned freelancing. I learned branding. I learned photography. I learned how to host events. I learned video. I learned business. I learned how to teach. I learned how to build communities. Ultimately, find a way to be more standout than the person next to you. What can you offer that someone else can’t? I didn’t say become better. You don’t have to be the best designer. I’m not the best designer. Not even close. But I know how to standout more than most. I know how to practice harder on the right things. Only because I had years of failures to learn from. Regardless on what it is that could help you, just know you need to do it because again it’s not getting easier. It’s only getting harder. I just asked that you understand that and don’t give up or think you’re not getting work because of who you are. Unless you’re a jerk, a troll, or one of those always negative people online, it’s not because of who you are. There’s just someone that stood out a little more and if you keep going, keep pushing, keep trying —that person will be you one day that stood out the most. Remember, hard doesn’t mean impossible. Hard just means more effort is required.

If you have a full-time job with a medium to large design team right now—consider backup plans and get portfolios connections ready. It's always smart. It seems like weekly now people are messaging me saying they got laid off and struggling to find work and don't know what to do. Pretty decent designers that were making really good money and easily hirable. I do think it's going to be harder and harder to get a job in design when you don't have one. I mean, that's always been the case. But there's simply less jobs then there use to be and more and more designers everyday. But at the same time, the really good designers are going to be overbooked and unavailable eventually so some of those jobs will start to come back. The days of the larger design teams *may* be at risk of fading away for a bit. That doesn't mean become a freelancer—that won't be easy either. Lots of freelancers struggling right now too. We've lost a huge part of a client connection with things like Dribbble slowly fading away and social media just becoming more informative and memes. It's getting harder and more confusing on how to stand out. Do you share advice? Do you meme? Do you just share work? Do you worry about followers? It's messy. Don't get scared or worried. Don't get too comfortable either. Just be prepared and realistic. Keep growing. Keep practicing design. Keep connecting. Keep an open mind. Just keep doing the best you can. That's all you can really ask for.

"Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce. Have a cold pint at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Tip your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride." - Anthony Bourdain
