@united is your checkin system down? I am unable to checkin on the app or using the mobile website. I get a timeout on the site and no button in the app.

@JTTsteve I don’t have much experience in circling, but my airport (Stinson) has only one approach to two runways. I will probably have to do it at some point in my Arrow, but it does make me a bit nervous. I’ve seen the circling crash reports for small jets.
English

@alexbaden It’s really kindof ridiculous. It’s not realistic training in the sim IMO. It’s an exercise, an act almost. We go through the motions. IRL - nobody is going to circle in IFR conditions in an airliner

@JTTsteve Makes sense. Do you have to do a circling approach on the check ride to not have that limitation, or is it just something the airlines want added to their pilots type ratings?

Congrats to @WeAreIntel Dr. Ann Kelleher on receiving 2022 SEMI Foundation Excellence in Achievement Award for outstanding leadership in the semi industry & work promoting diversity, equity& inclusion. Well deserved for 1 of most important women in tech! semi.org/en/news-media-….

@FlightChops I typically do a run up anytime I exit a runway. Most of the airports I fly at are high density altitude airports, and it’s important to ensure proper mixture settings before takeoff. Generally takes about 90 seconds.
English

Sad result here from skipping a few preflight steps. I know a lot of pilots that only do a run-up for the first flight of the day - that one is understandable... But proper preflight inspection and pre take off "controls free and correct" check would have mitigated this accident.

@AineYoreMD The Mach E is pretty good. But you’re right, the high end sedan market doesn’t have as many competitors (yet).
Maybe the @LucidMotors Air eventually?
English

@AineYoreMD Other companies (@Ford , @Rivian ) are catching up or in some cases surpassing what you could only get from Tesla a year ago. e.g. BlueCruise is excellent.

@XboxSupport On the plus side, my Series X vs PS5 decision is getting easier.

@JTTsteve @AeroSavvy My piper collects moths between the glare shield and the windshield… seems similar?

Finally figured out where they store the dead bees on a 767. @AeroSavvy - take note for the next blog update!

Mine (N600ED) is SN 60-0013, and was the 13th Aerostar ever built. It rolled off the line in 1969 and Ted Smith personally saw it off. This was before Piper bought the TC. Mine has about 3,500 hours since new! It’s also been upgraded a lot inside..

Steve Giordano@SteveNomadic
@DWThomas2786 @PacerPilotJim @ChadAviation That’s right. Yep the reason most of the 600s are gone is because most of the normally aspirated aircraft were bank-check haulers and light freighters. Fast, 2000# useful load, and 28-31GPH. They were worked to death. Many had 15,000-20,000 hours when they finally got parted
English

@JTTsteve @Nomadic_OMD That runway looks a little short for a large jet.
English

Quite Possibly the coolest #avgeek pic I’ve ever snapped. Short final to RW24 in Honiara (AGGH/HIR) in the Solomon Islands. Definitely going to make the 2023 OMD Calendar.

@JTTsteve @Nomadic_OMD Plus VOR approaches are typically more challenging. KELP has the VOR 26L with DME arc which is a pretty cool approach to master. And it will still get you down to 600’ above the runway…
KTCS VOR-A is another good one. You have to lose 1600’ coming back from procedure turn.
English

3/ for us at @Nomadic_OMD. We still fly VOR & NDB apchs! It’s all you’ve got in some places. In the ferry biz you’re more often than not, without VNAV capability due to database limitations.
I appreciate the advances in RNAV, but pilots still need to be able to do this stuff!

1/ @SkydogZen posted that LNAV approach vid to his TikTok and some of the comments really have me scratching my head.
It seems like most young pilots these days can’t grasp the concept of a non precision approach!
YES I know that most RNAVs are flown as LPV or with VNAV at

@JTTsteve Hit one during roll out in a 172 in New Mexico once. We rocked pretty hard but stayed fairly straight; even that was scary. Sometimes on short final or takeoff they can be nearly invisible. No idea where they come from.
English

We flew through a dust devil that jumped out in front of the plane RIGHT at V1 in VCV the other day. It was really scary. The plane lurched HARD left and and it needed V1 CUT-level rudder input to maintain control for about 1 second which seemed like 15. 😱
