The 🇺🇸 has a strategic opportunity to advance #climate & #energytransition goals and counter 🇨🇳's growing influence in the #globalSouth. What to understand what the 🇺🇸 must do to have advantage of this opportunity? Read @garnetstrat and my piece below. Let us know what you think!
E3G - Third Generation Environmentalism@e3g

At #COP27, 🇨🇳China refused to help developing countries deal with #climate damages. This shift is an opportunity for the 🇺🇸US to expand its climate diplomacy with the developing world, write @garnetstrat and @alexhackbarth of E3G on @just_security👇 justsecurity.org/84514/chinas-a…

🇺🇸🇨🇳cooperation not the only way OR the most effective way. @FP4A’s Alex Stapleton & I discuss 🇺🇸 #geopolitical & #climatechange concerns & argue the 🇺🇸 can solve for both by pursuing edge #cleantech & offering climate assistance to world’s most vulnerable tinyurl.com/mrz73pc4

I'm getting asked a lot about the tension between China and the US and how that might affect the ongoing UN climate talks. Here's the thing: there's no evidence that co-operation or co-ordination between them has played any significant role after the Paris deal in 2015.

FP4A’s Alex Stapleton and @e3g’s @alexhackbarth make the case for outcompeting China on climate — by pursuing an edge in the industries at the heart of the global energy transition and offering climate assistance to the world’s most vulnerable countries. thehill.com/opinion/intern…

Pentagon acquisition chief Bill LaPlante says Ukraine has helped him understand what really matters. "What really matters is production." "We as a country did our best to not do production," LaPlante said.

Rather than rejecting permitting reform out of hand, climate hawks should use their leverage to make it as climate-positive as possible. It can't take 10 years to build transmission, 7 years to relicense hydro, & 5 years to build solar. We must go faster. The IRA is not enough.
Pavan Venkatakrishnan@ppavnr

Environmental groups chose to support IRA, even though it included fossil fuel-friendly stuff, because the clean energy implications were too important to pass up. Now, faced with a similar choice on permitting, they’re saying… no?
