A young Baha’i detainee in Iran has been subjected to torture and mock executions and is at serious risk, a rights group said on Tuesday. The Baha’i International Community said Payvand Naeimi, held in Kerman since his arrest during protests in January, had endured prolonged interrogations, forced confessions and at least two mock hangings in custody. It said Naeimi had been accused of involvement in unrest and other crimes, including the killing of Basij members, despite being in custody at the time of the alleged incident. An Iranian state television presenter has threatened protesters inside and outside the country during a live broadcast, warning that authorities would eventually pursue them one by one. Reza Molaei, a host on the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) program Samt-e Khoda, told opponents of the government that once what he described as the “dust of sedition” settles, the authorities would come after them individually. “Confiscating your assets is nothing,” he said during the broadcast. “We will grab you by the collar… we will make your mothers mourn you – whether you are inside the country or abroad.” Molaei also urged viewers to circulate the clip, saying his message should be shared with others. The remarks, delivered with visible anger during a live broadcast, spread quickly on social media and drew widespread criticism from Iranian users. In recent days, several figures appearing on Iran’s state broadcaster have issued increasingly harsh warnings toward protesters and members of the Iranian diaspora. The rhetoric comes amid heightened tensions following the killing of senior Iranian officials and as reports have emerged of authorities confiscating property belonging to some Iranians who participated in anti-government demonstrations abroad.
