£2 is about twice the EU average, which was 97p in 2016 (latest figure I could find.) This what our government deigns to give us, (temporarily) in the middle of a cost-of-living/climate crisis theguardian.com/money/2022/dec…

Driving is one of the most subsidized activities in America. Every aspect of our transportation system—land use, built environment, energy policy, policies and laws—are designed to disguise the enormous risks, harms and costs of driving and pass them onto everyone but the driver.
Washington Post Opinions@PostOpinions

In Washington D.C., taxpayers who don’t take the train or bus are increasingly subsidizing those who do, and it’s not sustainable. @DominicJPino explains why. 🔗 Read more: wapo.st/42nR9Ok

@ClarkeMicah The world you describe can’t exist. Unless you want to live in a city and have everyone else live in a city. Life where I get a £1m cheque everyday would be awesome - but that’s never going to happen either.

Because a world in which people use trains, trams and bicycles, and walk, is a healthier, cleaner, safer, quieter and more beautiful one than the hellscape we have built around the needs of cars and their drivers. 500,000 innocents have been sacrificed to the roads since 1925 . .@deanathoma72716

@ClarkeMicah @Tradescant Why should i leave from where i dont want to to go to where i dont want at the time i dont want. Rather than leave from my door to go to the place i want at the time i want. Sorry not walking miles, cycling or any of the above.if thats how you want travel go ahead

@allbrightjay @nazzobetweeting It's not "definitely increasing" at all. I'm sure you can find outliers but most cities are increasing space for walking/cycling/transit and taking away car lanes and parking.

@nazzobetweeting Yeah, I hope western Europeans realize the increasing scope of car dependency in their country and don't just act like it's just a thing here in the US. Obviously it's not as bad as it's here in the US, but it's definitely increasing more than decreasing, which should be alarming

yes, the US has a walkablity problem, but one of the most disingenuous topics i see on the internet daily is europeans comparing european cities to american suburbs. of course the walkability factor is different??? i’ve visited my european friends in their hometown suburbs and they’re extremely similar to american suburbs, just smaller homes. they also own cars and need to drive for most shops. there isn’t a pub or bar at the corner of every cul de sac. we need to compare apples to apples instead of watermelons to grapes if you want to have a real conversation about car-dependence.

@GamingNaner @SCHIZO_FREQ It's not *that* stupid because they know there are rarely consequences. He should lose his job and face criminal charges but neither is likely

@SCHIZO_FREQ In the age of the smartphone, cops are stupid enough to throw around middle aged women in public for absolutely no reason at all whatsoever. "Erm... context?"

Theydon Bois is on the Central Line, 40 minutes direct to into Liverpool Street. If the fields surrounding this station are the bar we cannot clear for new homes, this country simply will never ably house its people.
Neil Hudson@DrNeilHudson

🌳 A proposal has been submitted for 150 houses in #TheydonBois on #GreenBelt. Green Belt protects the nature of our precious village. I will continue to do everything I can working with community groups & residents to oppose this development & to stand up for our community. 🌳

@AWalkersTale @harry_jrh I dunno. There's that sweet 1920s tech called electrification that barely exists on the Northern network 😔

Silly I know but one likes to imagine her majesty up in hea’n looking a little cross because she spent 12m to settle a charge against her paedo son only to see him arrested for misconduct in public office. Im sure Paddington will cheer her up with a yummy marmalade sandwich 💞🇬🇧

The 8h work day has been won with blood. Any attempt to take it away must be seen as a declaration of war and treated by the masses as such. Total chaos and collapse is preferable to a 12 hour work day.
Power to the People ☭🕊@ProudSocialist

JUST IN: Argentina's U.S. Puppet President Javier Milei just pushed through extreme anti-worker legislation increasing the length of the work day by 50% while allowing companies to pay workers with food and lodging instead of money. Thankfully the people are revolting! ⬇️

What should be appalling is how many ppl groaned and heckled at the woman asking if the royal family would help with the Epstein investigation The royal family is a cult. All of these ppl are brainwashed. They really do believe the royal family should not be held to the same standards as a regular person. One rule for me, another for thee.
Mukhtar@I_amMukhtar

King Charles was asked if his family will help with the Epstein investigation. This is not going away.

Remember, Mandelson wasn’t brought down by journalism. He was collateral damage in a foreign political controversy. He was indulged by a compliant British media (and still touring the studios!) to the end. They never got round to doing their job.

British politics consists mainly of people stating things that are plainly true while some of the worst people in the world accuse you of being evil and insane for daring to utter such unspeakable filth in public
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

The time Mick Lynch called the Lab candidate in Islington North "a private health profiteer" & Mandelson told him thats a nasty & disgraceful thing to say & a complete untruth The host then interjects "he's an entrepreneur who's made money in private healthcare" Mick: "Exactly"

@Solvatdelectron I’ve lost count of the dozens of otherwise good podcasts/channels/shows/etc that I dropped as their creators were unable to stay in their lane. (I’d enjoyed several of this guy’s videos, but likely no more)

Alec of "Technology Connections" appears to have posted one of the more regrettable TDS crashouts in recent years. Yikes. It saddens me, truly. He's a very bright kid, but he's obviously not doing well mentally right now. AT ALL. I wish him well and genuinely hope he gets help.
