@GrossoMatto Can’t really just do a bit - you end up wanting more. But I’m surprised how consistently good it is, but I would probably say something different doing it in winter. The route planners definitely hate you though 😆

@AWalkersTale We did it all in the wrong order. Started in the middle, not really intending to do the whole thing. Then decided we should, so went to the start, then back for the northern section. Tough walking, a real challenge.

@GrossoMatto Tan Hill was rammed today so didn’t really have time to stop, but it’s definitely doing well. Overnight at White Hart Inn. I’m never sure how much these places like lone hikers, but one of these places that care a lot & make you very at home

@AWalkersTale I was in Keld 5 May 2023, heading north up the Pennine Way: Tann Hill for lunch, Clove Lodge at the end of the day.

@dinkypinkygirly @GWRHelp @LNER Two problems with that: 1 - I need to be in Leeds for a meeting first thing 2 - The ticket for tomorrow morning is twice the price as it's peak time Sundays/Holidays on @GWRHelp are a lottery. Especially sunny ones and ones that coincide with big football matches...

Hi @GWRHelp you cancelled my 16.39 MKM to SWI train today for my trip to Shipley, Yorks. That’s the last train to make the connections to get there today. Can I use my Advance ticket on the first train tomorrow please? (That technically is the next train to do the journey)

I honestly envy y'all in the UK. Your heatwave will be over in not even a week whereas we here in Southwest Germany will have this terrible oven-like weather until mid/late September. It's relentless 💀

@OriginalLiamS It’s trains not buses, but air conditioning on new trains is noticeably worse than just having a drafty old train. And anything smelly just seems to be drawn into the air. Not sure if it’s H&S but definitely feels worse

Opinion alert.. but hey ho. Anyone else feel that some H&S changes have actually substantially worsened bus travel on modern buses? Was travelling on a Bristol VR yesterday with sliding windows, far better airflow with these! No doubt a victim of health and safety legislation🙄

@salingergregor Four tracking on the Disgwell Viaduct nearly happened for instance, but it would have been a £400m new tunnel (ten years ago money, so probably £600m today)

@salingergregor It’s of the flaws of starting with a Victorian Railway. Digswell Viaduct for example is hard to four-track. A lot of focus has been on signaling, but they also ideally need parallel lines to use during periods of engineering work or closure. All fighting for funding

it is crazy to me that the ECML and WCML aren't like 4 track all the way up to the north like you clearly lack capacity

@sirtobycarvery Got done in by this the other day because my train got cancelled, so I got the one an hour earlier, which was then delayed by an hour, but because I got home at the same time as my original ticket - no delay repay

@philw1982 @TheMurkyDepths @TLRailUK @SteveWhiteRail Hope you resist pressure to do this fiercely on Southeasten. To have chunks of advertised timetable cut on Avanti & Thameslink brings foreboding. Remember when BR shut central side of London Bridge & lines to Tulse Hill etc. on Sundays in 90s to meet budget?

A raft of rail cuts coming to Thameslink weeks after the Dept for Transport take over. Greenwich line down to just one train per hour for much of the day. This runs through Housing Minister Matt Pennycook's constituency impacting new housing near stations fromthemurkydepths.co.uk/2026/05/24/tha…

@KymriskaDraken @mancunianmedic I do get why private companies have to run for profit, but the early moves by DfT have been more profit focused, when they surely should be optimising for growth. That to me is the disappointing aspect

@KymriskaDraken @mancunianmedic How could we increase capacity on routes that run less carriages than there is capacity for? Perhaps getting more carriages? It will get worse, because DfT doesn’t want to improve things, they just want to save money. Hence recent West Coast changes

@AWalkersTale There’s a great ridge walk south of Overton Hill, from Oare, on the Tan Hill Way over Adam’s Grave, joining up with the Wansdyke.

Writeups added for two days on the Ridgeway National Trail - and now 100 walks have been added to the site. This section of the Ridgeway wasn't as good as I'd hoped (with a lot of time spent with limited views), but the good bits were definitely good awalkerstale.com/2026/05/ridgew…

@ByLakeland Middleton to Dufton on PW is probably my favorite walk, but I don’t think I’d want to do it having already done a lot of miles. It’s not even the hills, it’s just those endless boulder fields

@AWalkersTale The only annoyance in going down the Eden Valley rather than PW Swaddle > Bowes Moor, is that you miss out on Upper Teesdale and High Cup.

Land's End to John o'Groats – Day 42: Hawes to Nateby, 15.4 miles. 684.85 miles to date. Up and over the watershed into Cumbria on (Lady Anne's) High Way in the company of skylark, curlew and lapwing. Have always loved this walk.
