I have to tell you guys something –- @jonwu_ and I got engaged. I was clueless. He totally surprised me. Let me told you how it happened: For Christmas, my youngest brother architected a white elephant gift exchange. When it came to my turn, I tore open the gift wrap on a giant box– And it was a Costco-sized case of Doritos. Confused, I saw another wrapped gift underneath the bags of chips. When I opened that one, it was a box of cereal. At that point I was like “ha ha.” Whoever gave me this is a real jokester. The next box was a waterpik. At this point I thought maybe my white elephant was Jon because he’d been razzing me about oral hygiene. Honestly it felt kind of rude. But inside that box was yet another small box, and I honestly didn’t think anything of it, until I noticed the box had no brand on it. (My niece did notice--she got very excited) And when I opened this plain, small white box it hit me: “This is the ring. This is the moment.” And I immediately blacked out. The next few moments were a blur: I opened the box, Jon got on his knee, he proposed, our families erupted in cheers, the dogs went wild. No one knew what was happening except my little brother, who had worked with Jon on the engagement. It was a big surprise for everyone. Through all the tears I said yes–it was one of the most special moments of my life! I’ll never forget hearing my parents, Jon’s parents, my siblings, my nieces and nephews, the dogs barking… It’s seared in my brain. Now the fun begins–planning an epic celebration of love. I can’t believe I get to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate.
