I supported the governor’s veto because I believe it’s what’s best for Alaska.
It’s also Deaf Week, and I’m advocating for children who are deaf and hard of hearing making sure they have the support and opportunities they deserve.

The Honorable Representative Jamie Allard
Alaska State Capitol Room 415
Juneau, AK 99801
Dear Representative Allard,
The Division of Elections has been asked whether SB 64 adds Tribal ID’s as an
acceptable form of ID for elections. In fact, Tribal ID’s have been accepted as legitimate IDs for elections since 1980. They are not specifically named in statute because the wording is taken exactly from the Help America Vote Act. Tribal ID’s will continue to be accepted by the division as a valid government document, and accepted whether or not
SB 64 passes into law.
Further, it has been brought to our attention that poll workers need more training to ensure they understand and are familiar with these forms of ID. To address this, the use
and visual examples of Tribal ID’s will be specifically added to the training for the 2026 elections and forward.
Thank you for the opportunity to explain this provision.
Sincerely,
Carol Beecher
Director
AK Division of Elections

King Charles just addressed a joint session of Congress. They couldn’t help themselves; they kept jumping to their feet to applaud. The left couldn’t even stand when Trump asked them to stand if they supported US citizens over illegal aliens. The left continuously holds “No Kings” protests.
For a bunch of people who are against kings, I don’t think they realize the hypocrisy.

Courage isn't just about grand acts of heroism, like rushing into flames to rescue a child, diving into raging waters to save a life, or sprinting after a thief. It's also about standing firm when fear whispers you to flee; it's about embracing the uncertainty of saying yes to a calling that feels divine.
As I start this early morning, alongside many of you, I'm grappling with the weight of yesterday's events.
In this moment, I'm lifting our President and all those facing danger in prayer, holding onto hope for a brighter future.

@907KHM @alaskalandmine @jmruffridge @rep_dan @willstapp101AB @Frank4Fairbanks Speaker Edgmon locked the board and wouldn't let us vote. We were all there, but didn't want to adjourn.

After a weird ending, the House voted 21-14 to adjourn to Monday morning. They still need to pass the budget. The plan was to pass it by today but that obviously didn’t happen. #akleg

@jamieallard_ House Bill 39 – the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children’s Bill of Rights. Alaska needs to be the 18th
Look, I get it ( I can hear your comments now) but hear me out education in Alaska is already a black hole for taxpayer dollars. Fact.
We pour hundreds of millions into the system every year, and too often it feels like we’re just feeding the bureaucracy while outcomes lag. Fact.
Spending fatigue is real, especially when budgets are tight and rural districts are stretched thin. Again I get we are all over the wasteful spending.
But here’s the straight rundown on HB 39 The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development ran the numbers and put out a fiscal note saying this bill adds ZERO new state cost. It doesn’t create big new programs or mandates massive hiring. It mostly requires school districts to give parents clear, unbiased information on communication options, honor the parent’s choice for their child’s primary language/method, and ensure the IEP actually delivers services that way, including assistive tech and proper assessments.
We already serve a small number of deaf and hard-of-hearing kids (the Alaska State School for the Deaf has around 25 students, with more mainstreamed across districts).
This bill shifts the focus to better access and parent-driven decisions instead of one-size-fits-all. In rural Alaska, it even acknowledges that some kids may still need residential options.
Is it worth it? Absolutely. I support it
These kids aren’t asking for luxuries they’re asking for the same shot at language acquisition, graduation, and a real future that hearing kids get by default.
Denying them consistent access in the classroom is educational malpractice that leads to lifelong higher costs in welfare, unemployment, and lost productivity. Investing in proper early language access pays dividends for the child, the family, and ultimately the taxpayer.
Seventeen other states have already done this. Alaska could be 18…..
Parents, not bureaucrats, should decide what communication method works best for their own child. Language access isn’t optional, it’s a fundamental right. A1 absolute even if that means of communication isn’t like everyone else.
Support HB 39. Let’s get this done without breaking the bank.

As we say goodbye to Marian Wynn, affectionately known as 'Rosie the Riveter, we honor the indelible mark she left on history.
At 102 years old, this pioneering figure has passed on, but her impact will be felt for generations to come. Marian didn't wait for others to act; she took charge, joining the war effort with unwavering commitment. Trading her youthful years for the welding torch, she worked tirelessly in the shipyards, her resolve unshaken. She proved to a doubting world that her strength and determination were as unyielding as the steel she welded.
Marian was more than 'Rosie'; she was a pioneer for modern female strength. Her legacy serves as a testament to the millions of women who stood up against adversity, working relentlessly for the sake of freedom.
The ships she built may have sailed long ago, but the bridge she constructed for future generations remains unbroken. We pledge to carry on her legacy, ensuring her memory never fades. Because of Marian, we know we can overcome any challenge.
