@softlxnar i dislike eco zealots, however, as a "business case" for getting an AC unit, solar panels would do wonders. when do you need AC ? when is hot and sunny. what do you get when hot and sunny ? free power from solar. the only actual downside are the huge installation costs.

So I try to stay relatively neutral on UK vs US discourse as a Brit in the US, but one key piece of info a lot of Americans are missing is the cost of UK electricity. Even if you could afford to buy a small AC unit, the cost to run it would be astronomical

@salingergregor you can't compare the efficiency of the private sector with the public one. it is well known the private sector funds the public one. thus, wanting better/cheaper things in the public sector can only come by taxation directly or from the private sector, indirectly.

My bedroom is 30.3C right now with all the windows open. 🛌 Sleeping will be very difficult tonight. There will come a point when everyone in southern England will need to have air conditioning in our houses. Many of us should have got it after the 2022 summer.

I don’t understand why every vehicle isn’t a hybrid. Why not use regenerative braking to charge a battery in every car? Huge increase in gas mileage. Why do they still make non-hybrids?

Not sure what the wife has done to justify a £120 pa rise in car insurance, she literally does a 6 mile round trip to work at 05.30am & returns at 10.00am 5 days a week, no motorways or dual carriageways. You can guess she's now shopping around.
