In my opinion Australia doesn’t reward hard working intelligent and educated people enough Stop go union operatives pulling in more than qualified medical or engineering professionals Tax the high earners to death so we can pay people to walk dogs for $90 an hour as NDIS carer dog walkers I can see why we suffer a ‘brain drain’ where our best and brightest leave for greener pastures where their skills are better valued by the marketplace And those that stay just wanna play leveraged propadee roulette, because let’s face it we’re not that bright Not a serious country

Indian immigration to the US is one of the most well-engineered systems in our institutions ndian-Americans skew heavily toward upper castes — Brahmins, Kayasthas, Banias — with very few Dalits making it through. Among South Asian applicants to Columbia, Brahmins and South Indian Hindus average ~1500 SAT, significantly higher than East Asians.

Bay Area techie NRIs live in suburban Indian ghettos. Spend their lives in office, shabby strip malls, and watching Bollywood junk. Only meet Indians from same caste & region, rarely volunteer for any civic/public initiatives. Indians in India are far more cosmopolitan

@paulg @pitdesi Problem of south asians is that they are obviously not white and on the other hands they are not black or colorful enough. Worst of all the worlds lol

@pitdesi It's harder for people of e.g. Indian descent than for people of Chinese descent? That's surprising. I thought admissions officers discriminated most against the latter.

It is harder for Asians to get into top colleges than other races, but it is much harder for South Asians than East Asians.
Werner Zagrebbi🇦🇿@zagrebbi

The famous SFFA case treated Indians and East Asians as a single group. This masked significant heterogeneity: It's way harder to get in if you're Indian! In Columbia's internal admissions database (h/t @cremieuxrecueil), East Asian applicants had a 41% lower odds of admission than equally qualified White applicants, whereas South Asian applicants had 63% lower odds.

Since this is going viral, worth pointing out that this is not even one of the top tourist spots in NSW. This is 100miles south of Sydney. New South Wales (NSW) is the other California of the world, one with better weather and better beaches!

@mweinbach Using airpods max while bouncing around in gym is totally bonkers! My theory is mostly a female thing (for aesthetics, status, signal to not to be disturbed) and some guys do this in reciprocation. Which is also why this APM in gym is mostly is a 18-35 phenomenon.

I genuinely think the status symbol thing is a little bit over blown I asked one of the guys I knew once and he said “why wouldn’t I? I just am wearing my headphones.” It’s much simpler than everyone expects
Jason W@jmwilt21

@mweinbach That's insane to wear those at the gym... Has to be mostly status symbol right? Aren't they super heavy for workouts?

Live Translate is to wearables what “book my trip to Japan” is to desktop. A great demo use case that may only be used by 5% of the population 1% of the time. Cutting down 100gms on the weight would have been far more desirable improvement, but that doesn’t make for a good demo!

Headphones that are so much more than just headphones! The new AirPods Max 2 have even better audio, even better ANC, and even better features like Adaptive Audio and Live Translation.

@gregjoz nice! some of us were really hoping you would make this helmet a tad lighter, like may be 250gms - too much to ask for?

Life in Chrome: I try to drag a tab somewhere, and if I let go of it at the wrong time, it disappears! Where has it gone? It's now part of a split screen with some other tab. Eventually I find and separate them and try again. I've never seen a feature that felt more like a bug.

Did the test drive. Elevate is better than Hyryder for sure. But it still feels flimsy and substandard when compared to my 10 year old Honda City. Guess Kushaq and Seltos are next on the trial list.
Ravi Handa@ravihanda

Booked a test drive for Honda Elevate. Tried Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Mercedes GLA. Didn’t like Hyryder. The breaking was too strong. Also, the steering felt too hard to move. GLA was months ago. I have forgotten what it felt like. Main blocker there is cost.

1 - Anthropic - more importantly the org structure works for the future 2 - OpenAI - + 1.5 months - took in too many B players from Meta and now has org chart issues 3 - Google - + 2 months - team is cranking but it’s not life or death issue so 🤷‍♀️ 4 - Meta/xAI - 6/7 months behind 5 - Chinese firms - 9 months behind, constrained by chip access Anthropic and OpenAI are clearly nearing recursive self improvement. Google, Meta, xAI stuck. - Demis believes in real science, language models are not the path to AGI but if HQ requires language models so be it - Meta, xAI - trying to catch up desperately but far
Peter Wildeford🇺🇸🚀@peterwildeford

Based on the data I see, I think: - Anthropic🇺🇸/Google🇺🇸/OpenAI🇺🇸 all ~tied - Meta🇺🇸 / xAI🇺🇸 each ~7mo behind - Moonshot🇨🇳/- Deepseek🇨🇳 / zAI 🇨🇳 / Alibaba🇨🇳each ~9mo behind - Mistral🇫🇷 ~1.5 years behind - No other companies competitive

Speaking with Head of Product at a large company (30+ PMs). They actively ship code and their expectation is that all PMs on their team do this. Their recommendation for the first 3 things that PMs and designers (and marketing!) should own end to end: 1. Public-facing website 2. Support experience 3. Onboarding / growth flows
