NEWS: @MayorBowser is asking the D.C. Council to vote against a pair of bills that would require more transparency on federal agents operating in the city, largely by mandating that body-camera footage from D.C. officers they patrol with be released when serious force is used.

@maustermuhle But the text of the resolution itself says the act was "transmitted to Congress... on December 30, 2025." They literally voted for a resolution that undercuts this argument, no?

NEWS: As expected, the Senate has approved a resolution repealing the D.C. tax decoupling bill, following the House's lead earlier this week. The Senate vote was 49-47, fully along party lines.

With news of McDuffie resigning, a reminder that appointments for pre-special election positions matter. 1) Critical decisions will be made and 2) Major advantage in special. For ex: Bonds was selected by Ds to replace Mendo, then won the special election. That was 13 years ago.

@MayorBowser You, as mayor, are not just failing to help many DC families in need, you are actively harming families by cutting off their rental assistance, terminating their healthcare benefits, and advocating for pro-eviction, anti-tenant laws. I wish you believed the words in your post.

It's cool that the DC Council recognized that the pandemic-era effort to save restaurants-- streateries-- should continue post-pandemic.
Remember when we had an eviction moratorium during the pandemic and it saved lives? Do that next.

@MayorBowser Can you explain more how the census will help ensure resources are available to help people? Will there be a supplemental budget with housing vouchers, since there are zero for individuals in the fy26 budget? Money for storage? Shelters that allow pets?

Last week, our outreach teams conducted a census of people living outside to ensure that resources are available to residents in need.
Our progress continues and our message remains: We have shelter space available. We want you to come inside.

I can't believe this has to be said but apparently it does.
NOTHING about this is normal or helpful or anything but an intentional flex of power to oppress DC residents.

@MayorBowser does not speak for us or for D.C. residents without homes. We do not in any way, shape, or form "greatly appreciate" having D.C. streets taken over by untrained, aggressive law enforcement who do not respect the legal rights or basic humanity of D.C. residents.

We, as city leaders, should be unequivocal that the federal surge of officers in DC and deployment of national guardsmen on our streets are dangerous, unnecessary, and an affront to Home Rule.
