Statement issued by the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sheikh Naim Kassem: The battlefield has proven to be the decisive authority, and successful politics is that which benefits from its outcomes as a source of strength to compel the "israeli" enemy to submit, in order to secure the rights of Lebanon and its citizens to their land and sovereignty, within a framework of cooperative national integration that closes the doors to discord and prevents foreign exploitation of our country. The temporary ceasefire would not have occurred were it not for the Jihad of the Resistance fighters on the honorable Southern frontlines, in a legendary performance that astonished the world, and in steadfast, self-sacrificial resilience against the "israeli"-American enemy despite a vast imbalance in military power. The Resistance fighters have proven that their three-dimensional weapon—faith, will, and capability—is stronger than all the armies of the aggressors, and that in Lebanon there are those who sacrifice what is most precious for the sake of liberation, dignity, and independence. The presence of the hesitant, the discouraging, and the backstabbers does not hinder their progress toward the noble goal, for they have first devoted their very lives to Allah the Almighty, and they are surrounded by a dignified and sacrificing people who have endured killing, destruction, displacement, and the costs of dignity and honor. This people, from all sects, denominations, and regions, are oriented toward South Lebanon, because all of Lebanon is its South. When the South smiles and is liberated, all of Lebanon smiles and is liberated. Thanks are first and foremost to Allah the Almighty, for He is the Provider of victory and the Supporter. Thanks to the heroes of the Resistance who broke the advance of the "israeli" enemy despite its mobilization of one hundred thousand soldiers on the border, and who were unable to reach the Litani River—not in the first week as planned, nor in 45 days in the battle of “al-Aasf al-Maakoul.” Thanks also go to the contributions and sacrifices of the people, supporters, and loved ones. Thirdly, thanks to the Islamic Republic of Iran, its leadership and people, which supported and stood by [the Resistance], linking the ceasefire in the Pakistan agreement to an explicit ceasefire in Lebanon in an official announcement. It then closed the Strait of Hormuz in response to the American breach of the ceasefire in Lebanon, which led to American compliance and compelled the "israeli" enemy to halt [its actions], resulting in the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. We followed this course moment by moment. We also extend thanks to Pakistan’s sponsorship and to all those who contributed, even through statements, in support of the ceasefire in Lebanon. We have read a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State titled: “Ceasefire Agreement Between Lebanon and "israel" — April 2026,” released after the ceasefire came into effect. It carries no practical significance, but it is an insult to our country, Lebanon, for America to dictate its text and speak on behalf of the Lebanese government. The statement begins: “The Government of "israel" and the Government of Lebanon have agreed to the following statement,” while everyone knows that the Lebanese government did not convene and did not approve this statement. Enough of subjecting Lebanon to such humiliations in direct negotiations with the "israeli" enemy, listening to its dictates, and in the disgraceful scene in Washington where tyranny gathers around its prey, issuing positions on behalf of Lebanon. This is a slippery slope with no end. Enough. The people of Lebanon are dignified and will remain so through solidarity and cooperation among the army, the people, the Resistance, and the political authority that seeks Lebanon’s independence and liberation. A ceasefire means a complete halt to all hostile actions. Since we do not trust this enemy, the Resistance fighters will remain in the battlefield with their fingers on the trigger, responding to violations of aggression accordingly. A ceasefire cannot be one-sided, applied by the Resistance alone; it must be observed by both parties. We will not accept a repetition of fifteen months of patience in the face of "israeli" aggression while waiting for diplomacy that achieved nothing. The next step is the implementation of the five points: 1. A permanent cessation of aggression throughout all of Lebanon, by air, land, and sea. 2. Withdrawal of the "israeli" enemy from occupied territories up to the borders. 3. Release of prisoners. 4. Return of residents to their villages and towns up to the border. 5. Reconstruction with Arab and international support and national responsibility. Hezbollah is open to the fullest cooperation with the Lebanese authorities in a new chapter built on achieving Lebanon’s sovereignty, within a framework of unity, preventing discord, and investing in sources of strength within a national security strategy. Together, we will build our homeland Lebanon, prevent foreign tutelage, and thwart the "israeli" enemy’s political objectives, translating sovereignty and the protection of citizens into clear measures and plans. "israel," along with the tyrants of the world, has not defeated us and will not defeat us, especially after the sacrifices of the martyrs, foremost among them Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah (r), Sayyed Hachem (r), and all the martyrs, as well as the sacrifices of the wounded, the prisoners, and the great people. Lebanon will remain proud through its self-sacrificing sons.
