Women are now the majority of the workforce. This is because female dominated sectors are expanding while male dominated sectors are shrinking. Pretty much the only sector growing is healthcare (80% women). This is the reality that’s happening today. There are fewer and fewer jobs for men. Then over the past week, there’s been a wave of articles with a hypothetical concern for the future: Women are the most at risk for losing their jobs to AI. This could be a very real truth, and it’s also a concern. But I feel as though this messaging is being used as a distraction from the very real reality of today that we must to more for boys and men. Both can be true at the same time, but I’m worried, like always, “poor women!” will become the top priority here.
