Today's announcement from @CanBorder represents significant progress in our fight against extortion networks. In the Pacific Region, 34 removal orders have been issued and 25 individuals have already been removed from Canada. Nationally, 372 investigations are open, 70 removal orders issued, and 35 removals enforced. Extortion is a transnational crime that requires exactly this kind of coordinated response — the BC Extortion Task Force, local police and the CBSA working together across borders and jurisdictions. Human rights should not be political. Today, BC Conservatives eagerly backed a bill to abolish the Human Rights Tribunal. Scrapping one of the only open paths to justice for people facing discrimination isn’t “reform”. It’s a direct attack on human rights. Absolutely shameful.

Our hearts are in Tumbler Ridge tonight with the families of those who have lost loved ones. Government will ensure every possible support for community members in the coming days, as we all try to come to terms with this unimaginable tragedy.

Witnessed StreetSMART in action providing support to people experiencing homelessness, and toured the Newcomers Welcome Centre, which connects newcomers with essential resources. Huge thanks to the Surrey City Centre Library staff for the impactful work they do in the community!

When we support people facing addiction, substance use, and mental health challenges, we strengthen entire communities, not just individuals. We expanded BC’s Road to Recovery model, with 10 new treatment beds, helping 500+ people get the care they need, when they need it.

Three men were arrested early this morning and are currently in custody following a shots-fired incident in Surrey. Project Assurance targets extortion-related threats, and proactive patrols led to the arrests. Investigators are working to determine whether the men are connected to the shooting. Thank you to @surreyps and partners. If you have dashcam or CCTV footage, any tip, no matter how small, can help investigators.

Today, we announced the opening of the new Cloverdale Urgent and Primary Care Centre. The opening of this UPCC means more timely access to support for the people in Surrey. Our government remains committed to providing timely, high-quality care when and where people need it.

Two men have been charged in connection with a shots fired incident in Surrey. Harshdeep Singh and Hanspreet Singh are in custody following the swift work of @surreyps Project Assurance, which targets extortion and extortion-related shootings, along with partner agencies and Crown Counsel. We will continue to support police as they investigate these crimes and hold those responsible to justice.
