EXCLUSIVE: A group of House Democrats led by Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) are asking House Appropriators to “compel” through new law that federal agents return to their “core mission of protecting the American people” This request comes amid still roiling outrage over the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. And it would force the change through language in Congressional funding bill for DHS Rep Crow: “Thousands of DHS employees devoted to preventing terrorism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling, have recently been reassigned to instead focus on immigration and President Trump’s mass deportation effort” Here’s the letter:

I recently sued the Trump administration after they unlawfully denied me access to an immigration detention facility in Aurora. A court just ruled in our favor—stopping them from blocking our oversight efforts. I will continue fighting to hold Trump accountable.

Astonishing piece by @BriKeilarCNN & @CNN team on the mistreatment of our servicemembers. This story should infuriate all patriotic Americans. This is a wildly unhinged thing to say about people who have dedicated their lives to: -preventing famine -reducing conflict -combatting terrorism -promoting democracy The admins obsession with personal power and grievance is making Americans significantly less safe.

I’ve long worked to promote transparency in government. In 2019, I led an effort to guarantee Members of Congress access to immigration detention facilities for oversight visits. Now, I’m working with @RepRutherfordFL to make these protections permanent. It’s important to protect Congress’ essential oversight role and ensure facilities are in compliance with US law.

Those exaggerating and distorting the Aurora gang issue need to stop. Their misrepresentations are not based in reality. I've met and spoken with federal law enforcement and local leaders: the gang issues are being grossly exaggerated and misrepresented. Current gang activity is consistent with trends across Colorado and law enforcement is dealing with it. In fact, violent crime is going down in the metro area. Misrepresentations about crime only make it harder for law enforcement to do their job and harder for the residents impacted by squalid conditions to find suitable housing. To be clear, the politicians parachuting into our community couldn’t care less about youth violence, housing insecurity, or refugee resettlement challenges.

This moment from @KamalaHarris’ questioning of Brett Kavanaugh at his Senate hearing has never left me. "Can you think of any laws that give the government the power to make decisions about the male body?"

Vice President Kamala Harris has my full support to lead our country and party forward.   She will bring a new generation of leadership and unite the country as we strive towards our higher ideals. I call on Americans from every background and corner of our nation to join me in fighting to elect Kamala Harris as our next president.

Some lives saved. But some states still are continuing to undermine all access to abortion care.
