Whilst I will never give up on these cases, I have given up on Cheshire Police’s ability to do the right thing. An independent authority needs to take these cases - and the Lucy Letby case - far away from Cheshire Police so that proper death investigations and reviews can take place.

Liz Hull's latest is bizarre even by Liz Hull standards. The lede is that a lawyer for several babies' families has lodged a complaint against Mark McDonald, Lucy Letby's lawyer, for a letter he sent to the coroner, which included the babies' names. The Times reported on the letter. Hull's article heavily implies that McDonald leaked it to the paper. (She does not provide evidence to corroborate this.) The Times did not reveal the babies' names in its reporting. None of this broke reporting restrictions, despite Hull's top-notch effort to insinuate as much. Her reporting does not even make clear that there's a valid basis for a complaint of this nature. Surely, even Liz Hull understands that the reporting restrictions surrounding the Letby case, as unprecedented as they are, do not preclude the babies from being named in legal proceedings and correspondence. Surely, Liz Hull can recall how the babies were referred to by name at both of Letby's trials – trials that, as Liz Hull likes to remind everyone, she attended nearly every day of. Surely, Liz Hull remembers that the final draft of prosecutor Nick Johnson KC's opening statement got distributed to journalists, and that this document contained not only the full names of the babies, but the full names of their parents as well. Two NHS Trusts for my constituency have been ranked the worst in the country. This is unacceptable and needs to be rapidly addressed. But what is also unacceptable is the culture of rewarding managerial failure in the NHS. In this instance, that's shown by the fact that one of those responsible for the situation at our local Trusts is now the Director of Turnaround and Recovery for the region at the very body tasked with fixing my failing Trusts. I'm not sure Dr Bohin fully appreciates that, by coming out and making extremely serious accusations that the Crown Prosecution Service has – publicly and rather embarrassingly (for her and Cheshire police) – declined to pursue, for evidentiary standard reasons, she undercuts the argument she's aggressively pushed behind the scenes for two years, which is that newspapers shouldn't get to report on the extremely serious accusations against *her*, so long as said accusations havrn't been proven in court or upheld by an official government process.
