It’s a bit more nuanced than that :) The majority of people that struggle with weight (either to gain or loose weight) do have unhealthy habits, but the whole point of the post is that strict dieting, for most people, just simply won’t work longterm. The key to making any new habit is consistency, and on strict diets it’s impossible for the majority of people to achieve that. The way to go about fixing them is to start small, and progressively increase the changes aka slowly fitting and integrating healthy habits into one’s lifestyle

@anamiskovic69 If you have to select a diet to loose weight, that means there is something fundamentally wrong with your existing food habbits and lifestyle. Fix that first, after that its just simple planning and adjustments

Why do strict diets usually fail? Science suggests the answer isn't a lack of willpower, but rather it’s just our biology. When on super strict diets, our body and brain fight back. And here is the answer: 🧵

Solution Health is a marathon, not a sprint. A successful solution is to start with small adjustments and increase them following your progress. Research shows that small tweaks like cutting 100 calories, adding 2,000 steps, changing just one meal a day and so on, are much more effective. They don't trigger the body’s stress alarms, they are easier to maintain, and they form habits that last a lifetime ✨

3. The rebound effect Many people who lose weight on strict diets begin to regain it within only two years. The body responds to rapid weight loss by increasing hunger hormones and slowing down your metabolism. For every kg lost, your appetite may increase by ~100kcal. All this makes the strict path a constant uphill battle against yourself.

2. The risk of paranoia and mental burden The mental energy required to maintain a strict diet is m a s s i v e. The constant focus on food leads to decision fatigue. Our brains have a limited amount of mental energy each day and spending all of it on food decisions will certainly leave us feeling exhausted. In that state, consequently, we are more likely to make impulsive, less healthy choices later during the day.  (Late night snacking, helloo??) For some people, this can even grow into Orthorexia Nervosa, an obsession with food purity. In this state, dietary rules become so non-negotiable that they cause intense anxiety, social isolation, and guilt if a rule is broken. This dietary paranoia keeps our nervous system in a constant state of ‘fight or flight’ which can worsen digestion and increase inflammation.

1. stress response When we severely limit our food intake, our body can’t see it as a "health journey", only as a famine. Research shows that the act of restricting calories significantly increases the production of cortisol, the body’s primary stress hormone. High cortisol tells your body to hold onto the fat and can lead to insulin resistance, which is exactly what most medical diets are trying to prevent.

Nobody asked me, but I have discovered FOR ME the best way to lose weight is just -eggs for breakfast -meat/fish based meals -fruit + yogurt + cheese for snacks Walking everyday Pilates 3-4 times a week I don't think about it any harder than that, no counting calories

I gushed about sea food before, but I love it so much I might as well repeat it So apart from all nutritive good stuff like protein, vitamins (B3, B6, B12, A, C, E, K), minerals (iodine, iron, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, copper), omega-3s, fiber... this meal is PACKED with non nutritive, but VERY important compounds such as taurine, coenzyme Q10, powerful antioxidants like carotenoids (lutein, zeaxanthin, astaxanthin..), polyphenols (hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein, tyrosol..), flavonoids (hesperidin, eriocitrin, diosmin..), glycosaminoglycans, squalene, phytosterols...
