At this crucial time, Indian exporters are playing a vital role as the nation’s economic frontliners. By sustaining exports, bringing in valuable foreign exchange, and supporting employment, they are acting as a strong economic force driving the country forward. Continued policy support will further strengthen India’s export performance and contribute meaningfully to overall economic growth.
The extension of ECGC cover is a welcome and timely initiative, providing essential protection and enhancing exporter confidence in uncertain global markets, particularly in high-risk regions.
Building on this, there is a strong opportunity to further empower exporters by enabling them to take calculated risks based on their market expertise and business understanding. Introducing a temporary (6 months) MEIS-type incentive or a “Special Risk/War Relief” scheme can provide
immediate and practical support.
Designing such incentives in a holistic manner, covering all exports from India, will ensure broader impact, as global disruptions are affecting demand across regions. Additionally, linking benefits to incremental performance (DDK) can encourage growth and wider participation.
Further strengthening the Duty Drawback scheme or introducing a similar mechanism can deliver direct and immediate financial benefits, helping exporters manage pricing pressures and remain competitive.
These measures will be especially beneficial for MSMEs, enabling them to sustain and expand in global markets. A balanced approach combining ECGC support with holistic, performance-linked incentives can significantly enhance India’s export competitiveness.

The move towards risk coverage is a welcome step and provides much-needed security to exporters in the current uncertain global environment. However, instead of focusing solely on freight reimbursement, the Government may consider introducing a country focus scheme in the form of scrip MEIS, for a limited period of 6 months. It would directly support exporters facing demand fluctuations and pricing pressure.
