“Russian” seems to be the hardest word

Romania strongly condemns the Russian Federation’s brutal attacks against the city of Lviv that hurt civilians and inflicted damage on its historic center, part of the @UNESCO World Heritage. Targeting residential areas and civilian infrastructure is a clear pattern of Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine. These deliberate acts represent serious violations of international law and must be met with firm accountability. The targeting of cultural heritage, places of worship, and civilians in Lviv and other cities is unacceptable and underscores the need for a strong and united international response. Romania reiterates its full solidarity with Ukraine and its people, and supports all efforts to protect cultural heritage and ensure those responsible are held accountable. @andrii_sybiha

Right now, there are 201 Ukrainians in the Middle East and the Gulf region. And another 34 are ready to deploy. These are military experts, experts who know how to help, how to defend against “shahed” drones. Our teams are already in the Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and on the way to Kuwait. Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.
