Brain cell communication seen in action.
Scientists have captured the millisecond fast process of brain cell communication using advanced imaging. Teams in Berlin and the US used rapid freezing techniques on mouse and human neurons to observe neurotransmitter release and vesicle recycling, revealing key steps and proteins involved. This could help understand brain diseases.

This is so eclectic. lol.

@esther_confused @michael_nielsen 🐥🐣🐓 chicken is passing through me
English

@michael_nielsen Maybe my spaced repetition shouldn’t be for facts, but for love.
Q: On Sept 21, 2025, what did Svit and Andre do when I was sad?
A: They shouted at my window, pretending to be chickens to wake me up 🤪
English

Takeaways from the memory conference:
1. @michael_nielsen: “I genuinely enjoy Anki. Maybe don’t do spaced repetition if you don’t enjoy it.”
2. Memory isn’t just recall, it’s part of identity.
So I asked myself: what memories matter most these past few years?
Nothing intellectual, only moments with loved ones.
Then why have I worked so hard to shuffle abstract knowledge around my brain?

@GrantCuster @viditb has put the projector/imaging system within a desk lamp, which to me brilliantly improves the ergonomics and setup ... I'm so inspired by both of you and would like to put both ideas together :)

we can run many of the handwriting CNNs in the browser today as well!

@mattparavel @daylightco is this using HTML Canvas? I own a daylight and have wanted to prototype canvas-based drawing too
English

Spent a day last week prototyping a drawing app built specifically for @daylightco.
General theme = constraints enable creativity. So small square canvas, only one or two pen options, and an eraser--that's it.
There would be a daily drawing prompt. You'd be able to submit a drawing each day, view all the other submissions, and then vote on different awards (I think it would be fun to come up with unique awards per prompt instead of just voting for which one is "the best").
Might just leave it to the pros though @steveruizok, a native @tldraw app for the Daylight would be amazing.

@andrepology Lovely. It feels like it's time for our long-overdue catch-up call.
English

@GrantCuster so cool. are you thinking of projecting back onto the whiteboard in the future?

@hyperseref 'schema' was a way to say we that 'intent' can mean different things in different contexts. in a browser context, intents are tasks we want to fulfill, whereas with a recommender system it can mean interests we want to follow.
English

@andrepology Yeah, memory should be used when inferring intent, as long as it’s relevant. I’m curious, why do you need a schema for intents rather than just plain text?
English

@nopranablem how can I learn these skills? I feel like I’ve seen the frozenness compound over the years …
English

working to solve this! if this is happening to you:
1. recognize this happens from "stuck, unfelt emotions", not because you're Bad
2. you can resolve this by processing the emotions with a sense of safety
3. these are skills you can train for better resolution and prevention
Dr. Tucker Peck@tucker_peck
The most common mental health symptom I see in my patients is behavioral frozenness. You want to do something that you clearly have the capacity to do, and instead you stare at pointless screen content you're incapable of shutting off, or otherwise waste time, indefinitely.
