ok, memecoins are boring. seems we all agree it's time for the next thing. what should it be? i'm not sure, but i had an extra shot in my cortado this morning so i'm going to free associate until i have an idea. no backspacing, no editing, typos included. first thing that comes to mind is taste. crypto has ALWAYS lacked in this arena. but there was a tinyyyy glimpse of taste and expression during nft summer. we were indeed just trading shitcoins with pictures. but you could pour a little bit of your identity into your portfolio. that was fucking special. never been done before. any kind of investing has always involved charts and numbers, sprinkle in some red and green. unless you're a trad art collector. but that's been out of reach for 99.9% of us. you could not only buy and hold a speculative asset, but show it to everyone a la profile picture. it's stupid but you could make choices around what hat your fucking cartoon monkey was wearing. crypto OGs will say there's something magical about firing off 6 figures on the internet to someone anywhere in the world without any intermediaries. but shopping for a cartoon monkey that had my image and likeness because i wanted it to be seen by thousands of people on the internet was the real magic (for me). i know it sounds so silly. and i'm rereading this and let me tell you i'm very tempted to delete that last paragraph. i was a sneakerhead in a past life. sneaker culture gives you the ability to wear cultural artifacts anywhere you go. there's this hilarious michael jordan quote when he was criticized over his lack of political activism: "republicans buy sneakers too" lol over the last few decades sneakers have been a universal language. there was a period in the late 2010's where i traveled to parts of asia, the middle east, and europe and saw yeezys and jordans every single day. there's a thing in sneaker culture called "the nod." when you see someone on the street wearing something rare or some design that encompassed the current zeitgest, you acknowledge it with little head nod. to complete strangers. it was like a secret handshake, a way to connect with others who share the same interests. getting a little nerdy here but in the psych community there is this theory that feelings of relatedness is a basic psychological need. we literally need to feel connected to others to function. getting validation satisfies this need. but sneakers only let you do this with those within proximity to you. how many people can you fit in a room, and how many of them understand and connect with what you're trying to signal? nfts let you do some version of that for everyone you came across on the internet. you could feel seen at an incomprehensible scale. thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people. i can't even visualize that many people in a room. of course nfts were used to signal mostly wealth. remember that guy that said he wouldn't talk to anyone that didn't have a 6-figure jpeg? kind of gross. so let's not bring that back. but i guess where i'm landing here is yearning for something like that again. something where owning and investing can be more expressive. where you can signal something about yourself that allows you to connect with anyone from any culture in any part of the world without exchanging any words. showing off your thing on any website or app is the thing that is UNIQUELY crypto, the thing we can't do with physical art, or stocks, or real estate or any other asset class. nfts were universal. the money people could speculate, the art people could curate, the hypebeasts could play their status game, there was something for gamers to flex. everyone met in the same place and shoved their thing into everyone's feed and it was easy to find a tribe. idk if it's an app, or a game, or a group chat, or if it's another kind of token or what but it absolutely neeeeeds to be on display. it needs to be on display.

sometimes i question the value of being ultra-niche (crypto design bro) in a category that is already ultra-niche (consumer crypto). i’m spending my career’s golden years just tweeting at the same 20 people every day. and other times, i’m reminded that it gives you a voice that, every once in a while, can drive the conversation and maybe alter the course a little bit. you might not make as much money, but you have a better shot at making a difference. a niche let’s you turn a scripted story mode into a free-roam, open-world game where there is no structured narrative. it’s not for everyone, but that’s a much more worthwhile game to play imo.

So, yesterday I spent the day building and “training” my own custom GPT Bot with OpenAI. It’s called the “Commercial Insurance Marketing Pro”. My mind is still blown away by what it’s creating 🤯. Anyone interested in learning how to build your own GPT for your Agency?

🎉 Super stoked about launching the first-ever NFTfi Buenos Aires Meetup! Big thanks to @nftfi for the support. We're all about meeting with borrowers, lenders, collectors, artists, and tech whizzes. Just a heads-up, I'm not dishing out financial advice here!
