@setowns @AnnenbergInst I don't know, but if it helps most folks work from home on Mondays and Fridays. No harm in applying, right? Folks here are pretty reasonable/flexible.

My department (@fsu_elps) is hiring an assistant or associate professor next year! I am not on the search committee but please feel free to reach out with questions about the town, department, or program. Search chair is Carolyn Herrington careers.aera.net/jobs/view/assi…

I'm a junior scholar. The implication by many replies here that a senior scholar shouldn't publicly critique a *published journal article* of a junior scholar is absolutely bizarre to me.

(1/2) We need more attention to selection bias in qualitative research. A new study in a top sociology journal examines "how young people experience policing," but it draws only on interviews of youth in an organization devoted to abolishing the police, one that bombards...

Me when the seminar speaker accidentally says "caused" instead of "is associated with" when describing a non-causal correlation

@setowns @mpolikoff Interesting idea! I think all districts in Arkansas give teachers the day off (or offer additional pay for additional work), but I'll look into this and let you know!

@andrewcamp_ @mpolikoff Can you parse out/compare districts where that 5th day is mostly protected as a “day off” for teachers, vs. those that have teacher reqs. for that 5th day? B/c it seems obv. (at least to this former teacher) that 4 LONGER school days + 5th day of meetings & lesson planning = 👋

@mpolikoff Evidence here is still early, but my understanding of effects on retention based on studies from OR, MO, and CO is that any positive effects fade out over time. The effects I found in AR might be bc 4DSWs are much newer there than other states.

@mpolikoff It's striking to me that the best case scenario (which I found in AR) is a marginal increase in retention & new hire quality. Even in an optimistic interp, these small (barely significant) effects are unlikely to offset the negative impacts on students. edworkingpapers.com/ai24-971

{new} Most professions compensate their highest-paid workers much more than their lowest-paid ones. That’s less true in teaching, and it has implications for how we think about teacher pay --> chadaldeman.com/p/why-arent-te…
