Milton Keynes-Arena Essex-Wimbledon-Rye House NL 4s QR 1987. A photo that makes me happy because it brings back memories of good times but it also makes me sad because none of these teams exist now and neither does the tournament 🥺

I've had a lot going on behind the scenes at Upright Towers lately so forgive me for the lack of tweets. This is worth about 10 tweets though so I'm probably back in tweet credit now ➕➖

Julian Assange: The goal of war in the Middle East is "to wash money out of the tax bases of the United States, out of the tax bases of European countries... and back into the hands of a transnational security elite." "The goal is to have an endless war, not a successful war."

@peterktodd Just telling you exactly as experienced. We’d always provide clients with a suitable alternative if not entirely happy. I suggested what you said from pasture raised cattle. But they didn't want livestock to get adrenaline from the shock treatment. They thought it was unethical

@andrewgsilver That's a blatant lie. We stun animals before their death to ensure they can't feel it at all. In many countries Halal has a legal exemption from animal cruelty laws, because otherwise it'd be illegal.

_Not_ eating Halal meat is a religious obligation for Sikhs: they only eat meat where the animal dies instantly; Halal slaughter requires a slower death by bleeding. Muslims are violently attacking simply because a restaurant chooses to slaughter humanely for Sikhs. WTF.
Ryan Williams@koreanscot

How is this London, UK? Trying to get latest info now but this is awful. The thugs who attacked the restaurant have no problems but the owner of a restaurant that put up a sign saying he will not see halal Islamic food gets arrested. Ridiculous.

@andrewgsilver @UprightSpeedway They'd be terrified Hi-Oh especiallywith some dirt down. And the bouncy castles would mean fallers would end up either in the crowd or bounced back into the path of someone doing 70mph with no brakes (and, generally, no idea of how to lay the bike down or take avoiding action).

@UprightSpeedway The nickname gorgeous George wasn't uncommon either. I used to bunk off school to visit him and his son John nearly every friday. George's car repair garage in Plastow became something of a safe space. Happy days. RIP GG, you are missed

Sad to hear that Gentleman Gorge Barclay has passed away age 90. Born in London 1935, rode for West Ham, Rayleigh, Rye House, Crayford & Sunderland. He retired in 1975 but I believe he stayed in or around speedway for most of his life Thoughts are with his family and friends #RIP

Marriage, at its core, is a voluntary covenant, a profound act of courage and responsibility that binds two souls in the face of life’s chaos. You ask why we marry? It’s not merely for love, though love is the spark. It’s because we crave a partner to stand with us against the abyss of existence, to share the burden of being. We seek someone to witness our struggle, to affirm that our trials—our victories and defeats—are not in vain. Man is a creature of meaning, and marriage is a crucible for forging it. You marry to have someone to turn to at day’s end, to wrestle with the weight of your thoughts, your doubts, your aspirations. It’s a commitment to face the dragon of life together, to build something enduring—a family, a legacy, a microcosm of order in a world that tilts toward entropy. This isn’t sentimentality; it’s a pragmatic necessity. Alone, you’re vulnerable to despair. Together, you’re fortified, not because life gets easier, but because shared suffering has purpose. Consider the alternative: a life unwitnessed, where your joys and sorrows echo into the void. Marriage says, “I see you. Your existence matters.” It’s a vow to hold each other accountable, to call one another to higher virtue, to confront the flaws and shadows within. It’s not about fleeting happiness—happiness is a byproduct, not the goal. It’s about meaning, the kind that emerges when you sacrifice your selfish impulses for something greater. Critics might claim you can find meaning elsewhere—in friendships, in solitude. And there’s truth there; the individual must stand upright before entering the union. But marriage is a unique crucible, a sacred pact that demands you integrate your being with another’s, not just for your sake, but for the world’s. It’s the foundation of civilization itself. families, communities, cultures rise from this bond. To marry is to say, “Despite the chaos, I choose to build. I choose to love. I choose to fight for order.” And in that choice, life’s troubles become not just bearable, but noble.

5. Eggs (Especially the Yolks) Media Myth: Eggs, particularly the yolks, are cholesterol bombs that clog arteries and lead to heart disease. Reality: Eggs boost brain power with choline, build muscle with high-quality protein, and improve eye health with lutein.
