We’re saddened to hear of the passing of Mick Hunt, a true legend of grounds management. Mick spent 49 years on the groundstaff at Lord’s, joining in 1969 and serving as Head Groundsman from 1985 until his retirement in 2018. That same year he received the GMA Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of his remarkable contribution. On behalf of everyone at the Grounds Management Association, we send our heartfelt condolences to Mick’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be remembered for his personality, passion and pride, and for the lasting impact he made on the profession.

Mick may have been one of the old guard, but he was also one of the modern greats in sports turf management. He made my transition so easy when I first started at Lord’s. I’ll never forget him saying ‘It’s all yours now’. His legacy will always live on at the Home of Cricket.
