한국 산세리프 서체 중에 사람들이 실제로 어떤 걸 제일 예쁘다고 느끼는지 궁금해서 직접 아레나를 만들었습니다. 방식은 1대1 블라인드 투표예요. 무슨 서체인지 이름을 모른 채로 둘 중 더 예쁜 걸 고르는 방식이고, 결과는 MLE를 통해 레이팅을 산출하여 순위를 매겼습니다. 1위는 프리텐다드. 다들 예상했겠지만, 유명해서 많이 쓰니까 좋아 보이는 건지 아니면 진짜 사람들이 좋아하는 건지 궁금했거든요. 이름을 가리고 해도 압도적 1위였습니다. 승률 81.6%, 레이팅 2087. 데이터로도 증명된 셈이에요. 흥미로운 발견은 또 있어요. 상위 10개 중 6개가 전부 본고딕에서 파생된 서체입니다. 프리텐다드, 펴진고딕, Wanted Sans, 수트, 민산스, 스포카 한 산스 네오. 뿌리가 다 같아요. 한국 사람들이 산세리프를 선호하는 보편적 기준이 본고딕이라는 얘기입니다. 본고딕 계열 말고도 선전한 서체들도 있어요. LINE Seed가 5위로 본고딕 파생들 사이에서 독자적으로 치고 올라왔고, 아스타산스, IBM Plex Sans KR, 나눔스퀘어도 10위권 안에 들었습니다. 각자 다른 색깔로 자리를 지킨 서체들이에요.
