Absolutely love the triggering this has produced amongst the usual crowd. Try to understand the man and his positioning in society growing up and you might see the truth of what he is alluding to. @akalamusic

Trauma does not exist in a vacuum. To cure the child, you heal the parent. We need to reform the environment where our young people are raised. 🧠🌱

It is very simple: If we are really looking to raise standards in schools we must also invest in children’s, youth and family support as well as a wider pedagogy and curriculum. It is the only way to ensure every child is given the best possible start in life.

As ⁦@KumarAshwin⁩ says … “Fixing the SEND system is not only a moral imperative, it’s essential for our country’s future. Too many children are being denied the support they need to thrive & the cost of inaction is measured … in growing inequality” tes.com/magazine/news/…

@andyhoward68 @SteveChalke The lucky children are born into an emotionally healthy home environment, where both primary caregivers are stable adults... given that everyone has flaws to some degree. But when I observe young children being scapegoats for the damaged parents, I weep for them and their future.

When a child lacks security they come to school in search of what they are starved of. It’s only when a child enjoys security that they can come to school fully focussed on learning.

@HeatherBo63 @SteveChalke 100% agree. We need to understand that young people need to feel safe before they can engage in learning. Schools need to become that safe space for them. My childhood was a litany on unsafe spaces, even where it should have been safe.

@SteveChalke Completely. (That was me as a child in the 60s/70s). And then as they get older, unless that wounding is healed, they unconsciously attract the type of 'love' that they received from their primary caregivers. I feel myself ache on behalf of those children today.

Out today. Why schools don't work for far too many children - and what should we be doing about it! My conversation with Amal Rajan! Available from @BBCSounds now.

Couldn’t agree more with this commentary about how we respond.

#Adolescence, a fictional TV series, has prompted a lot of discussion about teenage boys, with a lot of hand-wringing, and various fear-based reactions proposed. I worked with young offenders for over a decade, and my son will soon be 13. Here's what I've found to be true. 1/4
