@Bencera I lived in France for two years. Loved the food and the culture, the nature, and I even got to love the people who can be quite arrogant. But it is a museum, devoid of ambition and energy, albeit a nice one.

In Paris for the weekend. Every meal here is a masterpiece: fresh, simple, real. A random café in Paris eats 99% of US restaurants alive. But then you land back in the US and feel the energy. The ambition. The speed. Nothing compares. America is the best country in the world to build a company and the worst country in the world to eat a healthy meal. France is the best country in the world to live and the worst country in the world to be ambitious. Pick your poison.

@Create_Profit He made $700k for "most of his career", as in, at least 15-20 years? In that case he must have contributed only the absolute minimum to his 401(k) and probably skipped it in some years. And he may have had a very conservative asset allocation.

High-end gyms aren’t about luxury. They’re about who shows up every day. Rich men don't want to be around regular people. Price is a filter.

@ericmmatheny It’s true. One thing I’ve noticed though, is that the older guys are bringing their kids to the gym. Love to see it. ♥️

When I was a young man, the strongest, most impressive guys in the gym were in their 20s. Now, overwhelmingly, the strongest and most impressive guys are in their 50s.

Corrígeme si me equivoco, pero este año cumplo 38 y me he dado cuenta de que, como hombre, a nadie le importas. Ni a tu esposa. Ni a tu familia. Ni a tus amigos. Ni a tus compañeros de trabajo. A nadie. La gente actúa como si les importara, pero en el fondo, no es así. Estás solo. Siempre solo.

@RealPostFolder He's a taker not a giver. Everything he listed is consumption instead of creation. Make something and give back to the world and the emptiness disappears and you are no longer dead weight to society. Doesn't even have kids. His issue couldn't' be more obvious from the outside.

Professor, the issue isn't whether you'll praise Trump. The issue is that for 47 years, 'experts' failed to offer any viable, low cost way to end this theocracy. Between decades of failed appeasement and now a belated war, it’s always the Iranian people who pay the price for your collective policy failures. Stop treating our liberation like a gamble where only we have something to lose.

I would love to see the Iranian people liberated from the repressive theocracy that has terrorized them for four decades. If Trumps war achieves that objective, I will withdraw my criticism of his war and praise him.

@moorehn If you live in a great public school district send your kids there. They will learn life skills and get exposure that the cocoon of private schools won't provide. If you live in a mediocre or bad district, by all means spend the money on private.

This is a common, very bourgeois error about the purpose of private school. The purpose of private school is not academic achievement. It is to establish a child within a social network of contacts that will help their career and marriage prospects for life.
Nick Maggiulli@dollarsanddata

Private schools are the most expensive placebo in America. Nowhere else will you pay $250k+ for something that has so little impact on school achievement. My latest on why private school isn't worth the cost: ofdollarsanddata.com/why-private-sc…

Imagine you had to choose your life at age 40: Option A: Single. No kids. $10M net worth. Travel anywhere. Total freedom. Quiet house. Quiet holidays. Option B: Married. 3 kids. $1M net worth. Drive a Toyota. Chaos every morning. Loud house. Full dinner table. Be honest, which life are you choosing?

We are critical of Trump 90% of the time, but if you go auto-pilot and criticize everything, even the good things he does, that's not only bad from the standpoint of discouraging good behavior, you'll never persuade anyone. You've embraced the echo chamber.
