As a Dutchman coming to live in Toronto, I was told you can only cycle half the year. Struck me as odd since I also heard that Canadians wear shorts until it is -10ºC. Now I know. It is not so much the weather. It is that they mostly only clean roads for cars, not for bicycles.

The most important thing about this amazing Paris transformation is how fast it happened — how fast people on bikes “appeared” — once streets were transformed. You can’t write this off as “Paris was always this way,” because it wasn’t. It took leadership.

This is my bike. I cannot keep it inside of my van because there is no room. I cannot keep it on the roof because there are solar panels. I remove snow after every 2-3 hours and then snow covers it again. Thinking positively, I can view it as some form of art.
