The UK has long supported a transition of power in Venezuela. We regarded Maduro as an illegitimate President and we shed no tears about the end of his regime. I reiterated my support for international law this morning. The UK government will discuss the evolving situation with US counterparts in the days ahead as we seek a safe and peaceful transition to a legitimate government that reflects the will of the Venezuelan people.

Keir Starmer should condemn Trump’s illegal action in Venezuela. Maduro is a brutal and illegitimate dictator, but unlawful attacks like this make us all less safe. Trump is giving a green light to the likes of Putin and Xi to attack other countries with impunity.

This is absolutely shameful. The Commonwealth Games should be free to enjoy for everyone, not locked behind a paywall, particularly when it's taking place right here at home. Millions of fans will be gutted to learn they might have to fork out for a subscription to cheer on our fantastic athletes competing in Glasgow. The BBC is the envy of the world, but it cannot survive if it has to constantly look over its shoulder. The BBC must remain as accessible to the public as possible - in the national interest. We cannot allow content to become locked behind a paywall to be picked apart by private and foreign powers. Liberal Democrats are clear: the charter renewal must be the moment we take the politics out of the BBC for good. That means no more government cronies on the Board; sustainable, long-term funding settlements, and a guarantee that the BBC can hold power to account without threat of retribution.

I’m horrified by the sickening attack at Bondi Beach. My thoughts are with the families of those who were so tragically killed and all those affected. At a time when Jewish communities come together to celebrate light and hope, we must stand united against hatred and violence.

Govt will increase remote gaming duty to 40%, and introduce an online betting duty at 25%. We welcome them taking another @LibDems policy and increasing remote gaming duty. But we need these funds to be put towards helping combatting the harms of gambling, not gobbled up into the wider budget.
