I chose this picture by Kori Newkirk as a reminder of summer because I spent many childhood summers in New York with my family. The older homes didn't have central air, so it would get very hot and we would leave windows open late until we went to bed. #ARTH287artoninsta
This image by Philemona Williamson represented summer to me because of the background and the butterflies. The green grass and blue skies reflect summer in my opinion, and in a way. I thought of the image as a representation of childhood in summertime. #ARTH287ArtonInsta
This work by @Jameaart was displayed in the blue/s exhibition at @esmoaorg, this piece fits in among the the other pieces that explore the feeling of the color blue #arth287artoninsta
Beverly McIver’s piece reminds me of the warmth you feel through the window for the first time in a long time when the time change happens and you can wake up from sunlight rather than the darkness of winter and daylight savings

I chose “O stems behold the night offering” by Lezley Saar for the way the flowers/fungus/vegetation seem to be blooming out of the person's head. I feel as though flowers or plants in general in bloom are recognizable symbols of spring. #arth287artoninsta
@BestJahmila These pictures are extremely hard to look at, I wonder if Newkirk is simply documenting or finding ways to help these people through the pictures
@hope_mutter@GenevieveGaign1 When I saw this piece I thought of the superstition of spilling salt invites evil in, in which evil is shown by the KKK hood
This is Salty Karens by Genevieve Gaignard. By using salt to disguise one woman as a klan member, the artist suggests that the weaponized emotions of white women (especially "Karens") can translate into physical violence against Black people. #arth287artoninsta
@arth287superfan@sanfordbiggers it’s possible that the cutout could be. representative of the way tradition African art styles were “cut out” of art history
#ARTH287artoninsta I like how @sanfordbiggers spins the traditional greek/roman marble statue wearing robes of the senate with a traditional african head. What does the missing piece from the figure's left arm mean?
I found this piece by #MarenHassinger to be very interesting. The piece reminded me of the sea island basket weavings and their patterns. The various cloth colors and lengths gave the piece dimension and a sense of incompletion. #ARTH287ArtonInsta#ARTH287
I chose @sanfordbiggers piece "The Oracle" because I was impressed by the sheer size of it and the blend of concepts. It reminds me a lot of ancient Greek or Egyptian statues on the bottom half, but the large face looks like an African mask. #arth287artoninsta
Hearing how beach houses, golf courses, and resorts (luxuries for the non-residents) negatively affected the few ppl who did get the 40 acres and a mule after slavery revealed further how deliberate and unapologetic the mistreatment of Black ppl is at the systemic level

"The Deed" episode of Uncivil was very interesting. I found it interesting they even used legal paperwork like the disregarded adoption to take the land. My own family has had land taken without any fight at all because of eminent domain. #arth287
I chose this piece, “Zora # 2” by Rico Gatson because Zora Neale Hurston is one of my favorite authors. I also like the art because it feel powerful and the lines shoot out towards all of the possibilities of life. #arth287artoninsta
