@anotherdave @chrisdior777 It's because it gets padded but those extra zeros aren't really useful so the evm needs to use extra opcodes to deal with the extra space also iirc

@chrisdior777 Could you expand on this one a bit, or any pointers to more reading? (I thought the whole point of uint8 was to use less memory.) Does this only work when packing multiple ones together?

9. Storing a small number in a uint8 variable is not cheaper than storing it in uint256 coz the number in uint8 is padded with zeroes to fill 32 bytes.

@onlythoughtwork @fredchung Hey Stephan, sorry missed your reply here! Yeah agreed, not trying to test the toast itself, just work around it in AndroidTests. Any pointers on using IdlingResource without being able to hook into Toast.getView to add the listener anymore?

@fredchung @anotherdave Testing Toast is inherently flaky and we always considered it an anti-pattern. This problem can be solved in different ways IdlingResources, Unit Tests or even decorating the Toast object in ways so it can be queried at test time.

@fredchung cheers for the session just now! Forgot to ask: we're using IdlingResource to stop our Espresso tests being extremely flaky round toasts (stackoverflow.com/a/32023568/147…). Upgrading from v10, can see that Toast.getView() is now deprecated. Is there a new best practice here?

@zsmb13 Great talk on Moshi! Gson's handling of placeholders is even worse IME. Doesn't just ignore completely — will use them, but only if you provide one for every field `data class Burger(val name: String = "Never missing', val price: Int = -1)` will use fallback for price 🤦‍♂️

Hi @British_Airways, I tried to fill in a meal choice for my flight today, but couldn't find an option for "Pancakes" — what should I do?

@daraobriain @GJLeeder1 & referendum brings constitutional protection now too — it's a double-edged sword, but sometimes works in our favour

Huge sense of pride over what has happened in Ireland, tempered by massive sadness that I'm missing the bloody party. #therealvictimhere
