@rachelcoldicutt it’s so weird. you also order hot food through it that will then come from the counter staff. such a weird mix of expectations on the customer, doubt user tested much over lockdown. put barcodes on things!

@dannybirchall generally off peak day returns can, but advance tickets can’t. you’re looking for break of journey allowed for the ticket type nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ti… all so complicated, and may still have to chat to the gate staff as the ticket wont let you through
