Silicon Valley is hated and loved, but always right about this one thing: The future and present belong to the young.

Looking for recs. Remote, distraction-free destinations to do a “think week.” Want to immerse myself in reading, writing, and creative thinking. Has anyone done this before? Where did you go?

@onescottwilson 🔥 I’d add to never optimize for a particular outcome — let the wins compound, let the points accrue. Do it for the love of the game

Life becomes 100x more enjoyable when you play it like a video game. When you recognize that you have the free will to do literally anything you want and start living like it. Step outside of all your limiting beliefs and realize that you have the power as well as the right to create anything you desire. Exercise this right relentlessly with wild self belief. Become the person you’ve always wanted to be. Build the life of your wildest dreams. Don't hold back. Don't settle. Be borderline greedy and dream huge. Collect the fruits that life's always had to offer you, and that you now have the vision to see.

The unbelievably part of the story for me is how thousands jumped two, sometimes three generations forward in just a few years. And how those lucky ones are highly concentrated in a handful of metro areas. While the entire world feels the effects of radically life-enhancing technologies, just a few thousand truly understand and benefit from the impact fully.

Nothing will shape your worldview as much as simply reading how humans from the past thought. You realize very quickly that our time is a radical anomaly in human history.

@pitdesi You’re half right — he’s also Spanish and Michigander which was a big surprise to me. I always assumed he lived in Menlo and went to Stanford.

Agreed. Politics slowed down everyone else. OpenAI, Google, and xAI thought that deals with the government would make them unbeatable; And while Dario Amodei stood firm against pressure from The Pentagon, the rest of the labs kissed the ring and vowed down to the President. Anthropic pulled ahead as if propelled by lighting while the rest kept their juicy morally obscure government contracts. Anthropic is on builder mode — with seven co-founders pushing fear aside and portraying Claude as the fair — some would call it woke — AI lab building for the people.

Dario Amodei: Ideology Won't Survive the Reality of AI⁣ ⁣ "We're going to find that ideology will not survive the nature of this technology. The things I'm talking about are gonna become bipartisan and universal because everyone will recognize the necessity of it." — @DarioAmodei

@signulll I feel the lawsuit was a distraction designed to slow down OpenAI while the deals and build outs were finalized. No one cares Elon lost the suit because he won the biggest deal as a service provider to Anthropic

if you’re openai, this is really really bad news, because now your largest & now actually profitable competitor with the most momentum is in a deep partnership that empowers them with potentially infinite compute & since they make money they can pay for it directly without using equity. & elon can’t afford to walk away from this partnership either because as a publicly traded company that type of revenue fluctuation would have fiduciary impact. incredible twist.

A year ago, and if the results of the election would’ve been different, we might’ve been back to regulating data centers, killing crypto handling a growing “uncontrollable” immigration problem and Iran might’ve developed a nuclear weapon. No moon trips, lots of slow moving highly regulated reusable rockets, no free AI. Just taxes and more taxes. We basically would’ve become Europe but without the lifestyle.

Andrej Karpathy is joining Anthropic’s pre-training team this week. He’ll help build a group that uses Claude to train the next Claude. Read that again. He cofounded OpenAI. Led AI at Tesla. Went back to OpenAI, then left to start Eureka Labs. When someone with that resume picks a lab, pay attention. He’s not training the next Claude. He’s helping Claude figure out how to train the next Claude. Recursively. Somewhere in that loop, a line we took for granted — who’s building and who’s being built — is no longer clear.

Personal update: I've joined Anthropic. I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative. I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D. I remain deeply passionate about education and plan to resume my work on it in time.
