The idea of fundamentally fixing the soil you’re dealt has been an obsession of farmers since the dawn of ag. It’s expensive and not viable everywhere. Also mostly suffered from a lack of data. @theGRDC investment is helping give growers confidence to proceed, or not.

@stationmum101 @soupercocky Introduce Mark and Col to each other, suggest that they start a consultancy for rural/remote landholders who @VodafoneAU says don’t exist, and watch them rake the money in. They could probably help you grow hemp, too, since that’s usually the solution to everything.

Home last night after 4 days in Victoria installing some new monitoring sites. -certainly drier south of Ararat where I put in some 1.6m @EnviroProProbes & replaced a burnt site from Jan fires. -North to Echuca and installed my most spec'd up site ever; 3x 120cm soil moisture probes in seperate irrigation bays + weather station + 10m inversion tower. Will generate valuable data for decision making. -took my swag, had 3 nights camping out. Plenty of frogs & mozzies with that water laying around, but I still love that connection with the bush (my family think I nuts)

@anvildarryl @agbyte_leet Quality Lentil seed can be sown to 10cm on sand loam! Variability with Mallee soils is the challenge!

@agbyte_leet @rick_rundell What options are there in that region to tap into moisture at that depth? Presumably lucerne, but would establishment be successful enough to try it?

Finished off with soil moisture probe install in Vic mallee. Some things to note in this vid. -heaps of flies -so much moisture at depth, massive yield potential -hard pan at ~40-50cm which I then bust thru and it's like I'm pushing into cake. -neighbour having a stubble burst in the background, I saw a few smoke stacks yesterday
