He’s a heck of an athlete! I found myself running next to him in the Corning Marathon back in 2014 and immediately knew who he was despite it being seven years after the clip went viral. He ended up running a sub-3:00 marathon!

19 years ago, a high school basketball coach put his team manager into a game for the final four minutes. The kid had never played a single minute of competitive basketball in his life. He scored 20 points. Jason McElwain was diagnosed with severe autism at age two. He didn’t speak until he was five. He couldn’t chew solid food until he was six. He wore a nappy for most of his early childhood. As a baby, he was rigid, wouldn’t make eye contact, and hid in corners away from other children. He tried out for his school basketball team every year and got cut every time. Too small. Too slight. Barely 5’6 and about 54 kilograms. But he loved the game so much that his mum called the school and asked if there was any way he could be involved. The coach created a team manager role for him. For three years, McElwain showed up to every practice and every game. He wore a shirt and tie on match days. He ran drills, handed out water, kept stats, and cheered every basket like he’d scored it himself. On 15 February 2006, the last home game of his final school year, the coach let him suit up in a proper jersey and sit on the bench. With four minutes left and a comfortable lead, the coach sent him in. His first shot missed. His second missed. Then something shifted. He hit a three-pointer. Then another. Then another. His teammates stopped shooting entirely and just kept passing him the ball. He hit six three-pointers and a two-pointer. 20 points in four minutes. The highest scorer in the game. When the final buzzer went, the entire crowd rushed the court and lifted him onto their shoulders. His mum tapped the coach on the shoulder, in tears. “This is the nicest gift you could have ever given my son.” McElwain won the ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports that year, beating out some of the biggest names in professional sport. He’s 36 now. He works at a local supermarket, coaches basketball, has run 17 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and travels the country speaking about never giving up. When asked about that night, his coach still gets emotional. “For him to come in and seize the moment like he did was certainly more than I ever expected. I was an emotional wreck.”

@rbzw17 PNC in Pittsburgh is my favorite (and it’s not particularly close). I liked “Safeco” when I was there several years ago—I’d put it in the top half. Unfortunately, the top was closed while we were there.

@NoLayingUp Loving the new episode! Despite living in Virginia, I keep returning to NE for great golf. I’ve somehow ended up at Wild Horse on four separate occasions, including a trip to their basement-level cart barn as tornados passed through the area.

@KVanValkenburg National Links Trust had the best golf architects in the world involved in the project and Trump threw it away. What a waste!

This hasn't resonated yet outside golf, but what this administration is essentially doing is taking over a national park for invented reasons so that the Trump Organization can run it and profit from it. Imagine if Yellowstone suddenly cost $1,000 but mostly served lobbyists.
National Links Trust@links_national

We are devastated to report that the Trump administration is officially terminating our 50-year lease with the National Park Service to manage and renovate the three courses. The termination is effective immediately.  Read more: washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/12…

@bogeybarn @LandmandG Nope! I’ve done Sweetens and most of the notable courses in Nebraska. I can’t believe I’m building my summer around a single round of golf.

This is insane. Landmand Golf Club in Homer, Nebraska put all their tee times for the year on sale today. Prepay required. They sold every single one almost instantly. Like battling for Taylor Swift tickets, people were queued and ready, but couldn’t even get a sniff. The Farmer took a giant risk when he built Landmand with King Collins. A remote destination and at the time a relatively untested architect team. To say it’s been a grand slam is an understatement. Absolutely one of the great success stories in the golf courses business. Amazing what passion can do.

ON THE RISE: A new report warns left-wing extremist incidents are on track for their highest levels in 30+ years—as renewed attention focuses on political violence after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. "The number of terrorist incidents involving left-wing extremists so far this year puts 2025 on pace to be the left’s most violent year in more than three decades," Center for Strategic and International Studies cites.

@AnthonyPioppi Would you feel differently if there was no tree but there was a bunker where your ball came to a stop? Seems like it would be a similar penalty in that par would be possible but unlikely. Good golf architecture requires strategy, not simply hitting it in (or near) the fairway.

Dear Green Committee, when a golf ball is less than a foot off the fairway and a tree blocks half the green from an approach shot for the average golfer, it's time to bring out the chainsaw. @TurfNetMaestro @TimGavrich

Pirro is the 23rd former Fox employee Trump has named to his administration. She's wildly unqualified to be DC's top prosecutor and was been described by her former executive producer as a "reckless lunatic." Gonna thread some of her lowlights.
Kaitlan Collins@kaitlancollins

President Trump confirms that Jeanine Pirro will serve as the next interim DC US attorney after his nominee Ed Martin failed to gain enough support from Republicans on Capitol Hill. (I've been told she will likely be fully nominated eventually.)
