@DLabz @FreyaHolmer IFC / standardization might not be the best place for these kind of innovations though. It is the shared common denominator between implementations, a bit orthogonal to something novel. This sounds more like research paper or prototypical implementation to influence the sector.

@aothms @FreyaHolmer No, not NURBS. Think more like Phong Shading.
It’s intended as an unified interface of defining curves, lines, polygons, triangles and curved triangles (IfcAdvancedFace).
It also sidesteps the inherent clumsiness of triangulating a NURBS surface.
I’ll explore this further …

@aothms How about this idea as a foundation of the IFC geometry kernel?
One unified expression of all curved lines and surfaces. Covers rational cases. Avoids Cox-deBoor loop. Scales to higher dimensions. Seems at least G4 continuous…

@aothms BTW I might recommend grouping by entity class (1st level grouping) and message (2nd level) which makes this a lot easier to digest for large files with thousands of validation errors.
