@HertzBarry @GlobeArts Always hard to make the argument for the business of arts. Nicely done @HertzBarry Fingers crossed we don't end up with endless parking lots.

Despite calling to track/re-rate a package almost every day since Mar 22 @UPS has abandoned the package I was supposed to receive. Not sure whom to call since calls always go to same call center - not in North America. So frustrating to know my package is in some facility Markham

Like many people, I try and avoid social media. But even I'd seen those posts about *Indian immigrants* in Canada. Often I'd scroll away. But sometimes I'd watch. But it's important to know what's being said. This piece for @TheLocal_TO helped sort thoughts I'm still processing.

For The Local, @aparita examines what’s fueling a recent wave of online hate targeting Indian immigrants. She finds a vicious cycle of misinformation, hate mongering, and poor policy choices. thelocal.to/anti-indian-ra…

Annoying to have to take to public shaming. But hey @makemytrip Trying to get a hold of customer service to resolve a refund that's still not made. The 15 days date given - Dec 6 - has long gone. What gives? Do you figure that customers will just give up in frustration?

Thanks for resolving that quickly. Appreciate it. However, it would be nice if it's easier to find customer service information on your website - which actually works.

@SamDalrymple123 I'll be in Kumaon next week. But likely won't run into you in the mountains. Thanks for the book suggestion in your posts. Will see if I can find Nachiket's book. And will read your Substack at leisure.

I’m currently in a small village outside Ranikhet in the foothills of the Himalayas, and for the past week I have been reading incessently on the history of Kumaon.

MATT AND MARA: Tender, hilarious work from @redvineski, who continues to dig into broken but not shattered people, sifting for shards. Deragh Campbell gives bravest performance of year, and not only b/c she drinks water straight from Yonge-Dundas Square sidewalk fountain. #TIFF24

@HertzBarry @manori_r I'm the Grinch who resolutely sits as other people around me stand up and clap for mediocre performances. And get delicious satisfaction.

I had a lot of fun talking about the hot (ridiculous) new film-festival metric with @manori_r #TIFF24

Fascinating feature by @aparita Bhandari. Sangha's story is a window into the thriving Punjabi-Canadian arts scene in the GTA - as well as non-moneyed international-student experience here. Part of The Local's Art + Money series, in which I'll have a piece later this week.

But there are also stories of hope, resilience, and joy. When @TheLocal_TO put a call out for arts stories, I immediately knew which story I wanted to pitch. Many thanks to @nickhunebrown for commissioning, @wencyleung for editorial oversight. Now off to bop to Harkirat's music.

I held on to that tape forever. (Still have it, in fact.) I tried my luck elsewhere. No go. The story stayed in my mind. I still check in with some of those students I'd interviewed back then. Over the years, I have heard several more stories. Some of them are truly tragic.

The story behind the story. (A thread) A decade ago, I started noticing groups of young men at the #ttc bus stop I use most often. They seemed barely out of high school, recent immigrants from India, speaking Punjabi or Hindi. I was curious. A new wave of migration from India?
