Being ranked #1 doesn’t mean we’re good enough. It only means we're more *reasonable* than others. There’s still a lot of work to do. If we’re not solving users’ problems, then we’re not good enough. If you have any feedbacks on Video Editing, feel free to leave it in the comments. Thank you!

@scaling01 Does xAI have less compute? I thought their whole thing was that they have more compute, that's like the only advantage they have

I would genuinely love for this to happen but many people think that OpenAI and Anthropic are already in a positive feedback loop and as we have seen with Gemini 3 Pro: a ~5 trillion param reasoning model won't magically be AGI (or for that matter a 6T param Grok-5) my base case is that OpenAI and Anthropic will pull further ahead xAI has less compute, less researchers, less data (no Codex, no Claude Code) and does not have access to models that literally speed up research (behind ~6 months) Google on the other hand is still in the race, being only ~3 months behind. they have the most compute, researchers, an infinite money glitch and the data

@peterwildeford xAI will catch up this year and then exceed them all by such a long distance in 3 years that you will need the James Webb telescope to see who is in second place

Old enough to remember when "AGI" was a taboo word, and the idea that scaling transformers could get us there were downright offensive to many in academia

I was washing dishes at my mom's restaurant in Chinatown when I was eight. Selling candy in middle school. Reselling sneakers at fifteen. ESL until eleventh grade. Failed calculus. Never took the SAT. Was about to go pro in League. Sent 536 cold emails to get my first startup internship. Moved to SF with nothing, couch-surfed for two months. Dropped out of college. Now I'm at xAI. Nobody would've bet on me at any point in that story -- and I'm looking for kids just like that. If you're young and you've built something exceptional that nobody asked you to build, send me what you've made. Links, projects, whatever you got. DM me.

Same with SpaceX. I was told to kick rocks by some boomer that refused to talk with someone unless they were older with "more experience". My 20 years of experience at the age of 38 was apparently not enough.

Many talented people over the past few years were declined an offer or even an interview @xAI. My apologies. @BarisAkis and I are going through the company interview history and reaching back out to promising candidates.

I interviewed at xAI, 3 of my 4 interviews were leet coding no AI allowed. No check whatsoever of my ability to use AI as an engineer. Compare with Replit where I’ve just been contracting - they’re creating new kinds of interviews where candidates get access to Claude code and the internal AI sandbox.

@BenjaminDEKR How is it possible that Elon who is famously highly involved with his companies on a deep level not know about foundational problems?

I strongly suspect that many of the foundational problems at xAI were kept hidden from Elon until very recently. There were layers to the iceberg, and he (unfortunately) only saw the parts above water. Those of us who were further down saw the cracks but were told to shut up.

Here is an xAI story. When I was first hired (low level) by xAI, I was extremely excited. I greatly admired Elon and what Grok could be. I have a pretty cool AI following here on X. Some big names see my stuff, including Elon himself (at the time). Lex, Beff, Andreessen, Aravind, many others. During the interview and onboarding for xAI, they made a *big deal* about wanting people who "take initiative" and think outside the box. Ok... So, some of the biggest names in tech follow me on X. I decided to ask for ideas and feedback on how Grok (then still early at version 2) could be improved. I asked my followers on X for the best "how can we make Grok awesome?" ideas, and was going to collect them (organized by Grok himself) into a big report for my boss(es) and ultimately, Elon. (xAI makes a big deal about how it's a "flat structure" also. You're supposed to be empowered to act on good ideas.) Well, my post got way more attention than I expected - great! Ideas to improve Grok poured in! I built a script to collect and sort all these great ideas to make xAI's core product better. John Carmack (personal friend of Elon, creator of Doom, id software, legend) retweeted it. Carmack has 1M followers. There were so many great ideas on how to improve Grok! I was collecting them and excited. Until....... I woke up the next day to a threatening email from my main supervisor* at xAI, telling me I had messed up, that I was NEVER to ask for ideas to improve Grok ever again, that it wasn't my job (I thought our job was to improve Grok.) They suspended my account on X. They never explained why. It was obviously related to my post about improving Grok. I was told to delete those posts which had gone viral. I had to delete all the hundreds (thousands?) of genuinely good ideas for improving Grok that had poured in by users on X, because it stepped on someone's toes. It made me confused and sad. Incidents like this happened often, where xAI employees would come in full of excitement and enthusiasm, and would have it stomped out by managers who hated ideas. They filled xAI with middle managers and busybodies. It was one of the most DEI and corporate-y places I've ever worked. I came in wanting Elon and xAI to win and left just sad. *That manager is gone, for what it's worth. Everyone I knew at xAI is gone.

something i learned from my wife, who recently learned how to sew: do not do beginner projects. if what you want to make is difficult to make, you should just try to make it. don't do a slow learning process. don't start with the basics. start with the advanced

Get your blood tested every 3-6 months Include T!
Hans Amato@HansAmato

I spent $12,000 on therapy over 2 years trying to fix my anger before someone checked my blood Was snapping at my girlfriend over nothing. Road rage every commute. Constant irritability that I'd mask all day at work and then explode the second I got home. Therapist said it was unprocessed childhood trauma. We spent 2 years unpacking my relationship with my father Here's what was actually happening in my body: my gut was leaking endotoxin into my bloodstream which was keeping my immune system in a permanent inflammatory state. Chronic inflammation elevates cortisol. Elevated cortisol burns through magnesium. Low magnesium destroys GABA production. Without GABA your nervous system has no brake pedal I didn't have an anger problem. I had no neurological ability to regulate a stress response because my inhibitory system was running on empty Nobody tested this. Not my therapist. Not my doctor. Not the psychiatrist who suggested I "might benefit from an SSRI to take the edge off" 3 practitioners. 2 years. $12,000+. Zero blood draws Fixed my gut. Restored magnesium and zinc. GABA came back online. The rage disappeared in weeks. Not managed. Not suppressed. Gone. Because the thing causing it was gone I think about those 2 years of therapy sessions analyzing my childhood while my body was on fire and nobody thought to check. Talking about my father while my cortisol was 3x baseline because my intestinal lining had holes in it The mental health industry is billing $280 billion a year in the US. Almost none of it starts with blood work If you're doing everything right psychologically and still can't control your reactions, you might not have a mind problem. You might have an inflammation problem that no one in the room is trained to find
